work] Movie summary: Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price Exposition Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, a 95-minute documentary film directed by Robert Greenwald released on 2005, is informally a sympathy presentation for every affected "casualty" of Wal-Mart. Gathered interviews of the inevitably involved encumbered ones, mostly families and their businesses, were featured in this intentional exposition.The film begins in a celebrated speech of the Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott, addressing the achievements of the Wal-Mart stores which are continuously growing.

The rest of the presentation is a series of provoking testimonies of many affected individuals whose lives Wal-Mart changed and brought into continuous struggle. The film ended with interviews of community leaders in different states that have voiced out their disaffirmation of having Wal-Mart established in their boundaries.The argument of lower price. Wal-Mart is a giant business empire. What makes it giant is not solely its territory but the pricing method it is offering to the customers. Obviously, Wal-Mart offers lower price on its products and patrons find it more convenient, and since economizing is their concern, this totally favors many shoppers, as this logically resulted in its being continuously patronized.

However, Wal-Mart colonizes the previous subject of other inferior companies of the same nature. Wal-Mart is insensitive to the affected sufferers' concerns upon building their establishment, to include the company's extensive foreign product sourcing, low rates of employee health insurance, resistance to union representation, alleged sexism, among other things.Critique of argument. The documentary film is almost like a bitter rival's project to bring Wal-Mart down. Undoubtedly, Greenwald wanted to make viewers indirectly get discouraged to foster the store, an implication of the intent of gathered interviews.

The argument in this documentary is not that strong as the film and the filmmaker also expressed sympathy for the oppressed, be it the former employees that felt not being treated fairly or the families once holding businesses affected by this giant, most of which came into closure. The store is often seen and quoted as Goliath and this one-sided documentary expose serves indirectly as the David to cause its downfall.Commentary. Greenwald has been honest for implying his disagreement upon Wal-Mart emporium, but at the same time, he is unfair for not imploring Wal-Mart's opinion upon these subjugated claimants.

After all he used its corporate name. He should have at least provided time for Wal-Mart's judgment as well, just to make it balance, hence giving the viewers the privilege to judge for themselves.If Greenwald's intention was to make the audience very angry indeed, then the film is a resounding success. It'll definitely make one want to boycott Asda. Asda.com is an online shopping site and part of Wal-Mart family, and also ASDA is the substitute name of the company in its European franchises.

The very title itself, The High Cost of the Low Price, is suggestive application of the principle of compensation. Many customers will benefit from their low-pricing feat and expectedly, this has an effect on the ones that could be affected with their realm establishment in any aspect. The film has over-emphasized the matter. Greenwald's approach is none too subtle. He includes footage of a typically gung-ho speech by Wal-Mart President Lee Scott, and then undercuts everything he says to prove the opposite.

But the wise will not be fooled.
