Discussion The primary source of ethics is religion. Other than religion, all schools of ethics differ in their opinions as to what should be done to the frozen embryos as well as regarding the ethical and moral issues that the practice of freezing the embryos entails. Abrahamic religions firmly believe in the assignment of an embryo only to the biological mother. A daughter giving birth to a child formed from the frozen embryo of her own mother might, by law, be giving birth to her son, but practically or religiously, she is giving birth to her biological brother.

These are grave moral issues and must be dealt with very seriously. Not being brought to life might be morally more reasonable than being born in a way that jeopardizes and mishmashes the natural relationships created by God. Other than the religious perspective, we can never reach a consensus as to what should be done about the frozen embryos. There might be different ways of reaching a decision, e.g. by voting or through surveys, but the decision thus reached would be socially supported only without being morally or ethically informed.

However, the practice of freezing the eggs of a woman only to be restored into her donor at a later point in time is not a moral issue. A practical and useful approach would be to use the extra frozen embryos for research purposes so that quality of life of existing people or those who are yet to be born can be improved.
