Acid Rain in Lewistown Pennsylvania al Affiliation) Hypothesis: The rain that is experienced in Lewistown Pennsylvania is highly acidic rainfall.Proof: A report that was produced by the Natural Resources Defense Council stated that the weather monitoring station that was located in the central part of Pennsylvania had recorded the highest amount of acidity found in the rain experienced. The particular information had been gathered in 131 different sites across the 46 states that make up the United States of America.

In response to the causative agent of the acidic rain, it is lobbied that Pennsylvania has many industries which emit poisonous pollutants into the atmosphere (Park, 2013). These pollutants cause acidic rainfall since they contain traces of nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide. According to the Federal Monitoring Data report, Pennsylvania, since 1987, has been ranked as the first state that experiences an excess of acidic rainfall. However, the level of acidity varies from place to place that is located in Pennsylvania.

The highest acidic content in rainwater is found in Leading Ridge located in Huntingdon County. The average rainfall pH is 4.08. This particular pH value is considered to be 33 times more in concentration of acidity than the normal rainwater that is unpolluted. Any value that is below the pH value of 7 is considered to be acidic. The lower the value the more the acidity of the rainwater. Normal rainwater is considered to have an average pH value of 5.6 (Park, 2013). Lewistown Pennsylvania is therefore affected by the coal-fired power plants, a large number of automobiles, and factories that emit pollutants to the atmosphere.

The resultant effect of these pollutants in the atmosphere, therefore, forms acidic rain, fog, snow, and other particulate matter (Park, 2013).Pictures of the Effects of Acidic Rainfall in Pennsylvania.
