Pulse Magnetic Field Therapy and Phototherapy Pulse magnetic field therapy (PMFT) refers to the use of magnetic field pulses in the field of medicine. Phototherapy implies the use of light for the purpose of treating illnesses. Both this treatment modalities have been researched and tested in veterinary medicine and have found tremendous application in the treatment of animals. In this paper, we shall be discussing how PMFT and Phototherapy works, involvement in biological systems, its clinical significance and effects in veterinary medicine, and the most effective ways of communicating the treatment modality to clients and veterinary surgeons. Pulse Magnetic Field therapy uses magnetism in order to elicit its therapeutic effect. Based on research conducted by Marjorie (p. 3), PMFT is quite resourceful when it comes to orthopedic and neurological treatment. The therapy works through the utilization of energy stored. Magnetic fields normally form around electrons that move through a given structure in a specific uniform direction. The energy usually involved result in a magnetic field when it is at right angles. Photo therapy, on the other hand, utilizes laser in treatment. In veterinary medicine, the commonly used phototherapy devices are light emitting diodes. These always come in two types namely; Solid state lasers and extreme brightness Led’s. , the solid state devices produce light when a certain voltage is passed through diodes. The frequency of the emitted light is highly dependent on the type of impurities existent at P-N junction. In regard to extreme brightness Led’s, these generate light also at the P-N junction; though utilize concave mirrors to reflect it forward. Light frequencies have an impact on its therapeutic use. We have blue, infrared and visible red frequencies. Differences in frequencies have an impact on light energy and the level of tissue penetration. In physics, higher energy is produced with the shortest wavelength. Pulsed magnetic field therapy and phototherapy carry clinical importance when it comes to the field of veterinary medicine in a number of ways. Current research affirms that bone growth factors have a role when it comes to bone repair. PMFT stimulate bone growth factors. Bone growth factors have a role in stimulating bone formation, remodeling, and repair. In addition, it also plays a role in stimulating regulatory proteins that serve a role in up regulation and down regulation of bone repair. Nevertheless, this process is useful when it comes to bone repair, as it increases born density plus initiates healing when it comes to non-union fractures (Alex 2015). The use of bone growth factors of the animal is so essential in the treatment of the fracture site, medicine to be administered, the machines to be used and the method of treatment that has to be administered. This information is termed as one of the most vital assessment process done on the fracture by the therapists in line with the formation and bone structure. The growth factors, however; are so important in regulating a variety of the cellular process. Bone growth factors are so important in promoting cell maturity and differentiation. In that point, cell differentiation is promoted by morphogenetic proteins in the body which are around twenty in number, but the main six are found to be more effective. In this note, calcium regulation process is so relevant to the balancing of the above process. The release of calcium ions from endoplasmic reticulum is one of the additional processes that quicken the healing process. It also helps in the normalization of the potentially damaged cell. The electromagnetic fields are essential in regulating the contraction and expansion of the tissues and genes in the body. They, however, increase gene expansion process through the extra-cellular process. This being the main assistance of bone growth, DNA and RNA formation (Acton 2013). These forms of therapies can be communicated to the clients through proper advertisements of the health benefits and disadvantages of the procedure. These forms of treatment should be used carefully. It is highly contraindicated when it comes to its use when tumors are involved, heart pacemakers, active infection, and pregnancy as they can produce a negative outcome (Marjorie 2012). This form of treatment may not be so effective when the injured area is so deep; hence, the doctor is advised to combine it with other applicable methods of treatment. Static magnets products are mainly found in the market and statistics made on these products states that they increase circulation of oxygen and blood in the body (Meyers 2013). Phototherapy, on the other hand, serves the role of providing an antibacterial effect on wounds when the blue frequency is used. In addition, it also has a role when it comes to scars remodeling. When it comes to soft tissue injured sites, like injured muscles and tendons, phototherapy has a role in improving its outcome. Lastly, it also serves to relieve pain. In order to effectively communicate the above treatment modalities to the clients, veterinary physiotherapists would produce brochures and journals in regard to the effectiveness of pulse magnetic therapy and phototherapy in the care of their animals. Veterinary Physiotherapists can hold seminars and meetings in regard the subject to explain to their clients in details about how the equipments work and the health benefits of the same in the management of their animals. Phototherapy can be communicated to a device that uses light energy to bring various effects on the injured site. PEMT, on the other hand, can be communicated to clients as the application of magnetism in veterinary medicine through eliciting quick healing process. All the above processes are so essential when it comes to pulse magnetic field therapy and the process of phototherapy in veterinary treatment. Furthermore, the main agenda of using all the above process and method of treatment has been rated as one of the most reliable means among different veterinary therapist (Acton 2013). Nevertheless phototherapy and PEMT are treatment modalities that should be communicated effectively to clients and veterinary surgeons in order to have it used commonly.
