The writeup proposes a Project Management Maturity Model based on the Capability Maturity Model in order to improve IT project management processes and systems and also write about how projects processes can mature and improve from one level to another.
The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S.
The purpose of CMM Integration is to provide guidance for improving your organization's processes and your ability to manage the development, acquisition, and maintenance of products or services.
There are 5 levels of the CMM. According to the SEI , "Predictability, effectiveness, and control of an organization's software processes are believed to improve as the organization moves up these five levels. While not rigorous, the empirical evidence to date supports this belief. The five levels are Initial, Repeatable, Defined, Managed and Optimised.
Based on the above lines, I would like to propose a Project Management Maturity Model, (PMMM), which will be used to fine-tune the process of project management. Processes are the integral part of any project and improving those processes will result in improved efficiencies within the same constraints.
In level one of the maturity model, the processes are ad hoc and chaotic. The project is completed and results are obtained but the success is not repeatable since much is attributed to the skills of the resources involved. Also often the project exceeds limits of time and budget and critical processes are overlooked to get the work done. ...
