oaf The role of businesses/industries in determining America’s domestic and international policies Business and industries have major influence in formulating America’s internal and external policies. In fact most of the members of America’s policy making body Congress, accept huge amount of money from business men for their election expenses. In return to the money accepted from business, Congressmen forced to safeguard the interests of business and industries (Lobbying), while determining America’s domestic and international policies.

This paper analyses what should be the role of industries and organizations in determining America’s internal and external policies. President Obama has recently said that "the key to job creation is to encourage companies to invest more in America. But for years, our tax code has actually given billions of dollars in tax breaks that encourage companies to create jobs and profits in other countries" (Mishra). Currently, many of the American companies are outsourcing their business to India like countries in order to maximize their profits.

Cheap labor cost in overseas countries is the major reason why American companies are very much interested in outsourcing their jobs. It is a fact that American companies are making billions of profits as a result of this revolutionary business concept. At the same time, it should be noted that America’s capital is slowly flowing out of America which is not good for American economic growth. Obama is trying hard to reduce the volume of outsourcing works from America because of the above awareness.

He knows that in the long run, outsourcing may adversely affect America’s interests. However, business people have significant influence in the policy making bodies and they are defeating Obama’s efforts to reduce or prohibit outsourcing jobs with the help of Congressmen. Business people are always interested in profit making and they may not bother much about the future of America while forcing the government to make policies suitable to conserve their interests. It is a fact that current economic or business climate in America is not so good which forces business and industries to look for options in overseas countries.

At the same time, they should realize that when they force American government to make internal and external policies in favor of them for gaining temporary advantages, America’s long term interests should not be sacrificed. Politics is now an economic strategy along with price, quality, innovation, marketing, and service. Few American companies give attention to this sixth dimension of competition-fewer than 30 percent of the 150 largest U.S. corporations try to affect their government’s international trade and economic policies, and virtually none address the trade and economic policies of the foreign countries where they operate (Agents of Influence) International business or cross cultural business is growing day by day because of globalization.

Many of the American companies are currently operating internationally in order to exploit the favorable business climate abroad. These companies are forcing American government to make policies suitable for boosting international trade activities. For example, recently president Obama visited emerging country India, in order to canvass business for American companies. Earlier, America’s foreign policies were more biased towards Pakistan; however, American companies realized the business potential in India and forced American politicians to make certain changes in America’s foreign policies towards India.

Thus the nuclear embargo enforced upon India earlier has been removed in order to satisfy India and to increase the bilateral cooperation. President Obama’s visit to India helped American companies to earn business worth billions from India. It is a fact that increased economic cooperation between India and America is currently necessary for American companies to sell their products in India. However, American companies are not much worried about the trade and economic policies of India. In fact American administration should analyze these things critically before increasing economic tie up with India like foreign countries.

The administration should make sure that any economic or trade agreements reached with overseas countries should never cause any harm to America’s interests. To conclude, America’s internal and external policies are currently controlled by the business groups or industrial organizations. These business groups are more interested in safeguarding their interests rather than the interests of the country. The administration should make sure that the country’s interests should never be sacrificed even if the business groups exert enormous pressure while making the internal and external policies.

Congressmen, who accepts huge amounts from business for their election campaign expenses, should give priority to the interests of the country first and then only they should think about the interests of the lobbying groups.
