Essay I am herewith applying for business studies at the Rutgers Business School. I am currently majoring in Liberal Arts Business from the MiddlesexCounty College and would like to join the Rutgers business school in the fall of 2011. I would like to specialize either in accounting or economics. It has been my long cherished dream to study at Rutgers, the state University of New Jersey, as this institution, which is the eighth oldest public research institute in the US, has prided itself in meeting the growing challenges of the every generation of students. Along with its vibrant community, the university has strived to maintain the highest standards of teaching, research, service and providing solutions for local, national as well as the global community. These aspects have resulted in its inclusion into the Association of American Universities. Thus Rutgers University, apart from inculcating knowledge, also helps in the overall development of students. The undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered by the 27 schools and colleges of the University offer personalized courses of study that cater to improve the skills and knowledge of the students. The faculty of the college, which is its pride, strives to bring out the best talent within every student and to improve and enrich their knowledge. Thus joining Rutgers University would be both a privilege and a good learning experience which, I believe, would eventually help me to achieve my career goals. As for my educational qualification, I joined Woodbridge High School after migrating to the US in the year 2004. I honored in math and English and won the president’s award during my eighth grade. I was a New Jersey star student for one year and am still a member of the NJ star club. I graduated from high school in the year 2009. I was part of the national honor society and received the excellence in mathematics as well as the academic achievement awards during my 9, 10 and 11 grades. Several such academic awards are being offered to students in the Rutgers institute and I also hope to earn these awards as I believe that such awards would encourage students to perform better in the academics and hence they would be helpful in pursuing academic ambitions and research. I possess a sound knowledge in subjects such as Algebra 1, Geometry, Trigonometry, pre-calculus, AP calculus. I have also completed courses in earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, AP biology, human bio-medical sciences and sociology. I am presently studying financial accounting in the liberal arts business course in the Middlesex County College. In this course I have also taken Psychology, courses in political science and statistics I and II. I have not been able to fare well during the present semester due to problems with my health and I hope to make up for it by scoring well in the next semester. I intend taking up 19 credits for my next semester that includes subjects such as managerial accounting, intermediate PC APPL with programming, economics, Italian, public speaking and introduction to art. As for my language proficiency, I studied Spanish and Chinese in my previous semesters and have taken Italian in my current semester. Though I have been getting good grades in my previous semesters, problems with my ear and teeth prevented me from attending some classes in the present semester which has also affected my grades. However, I am confident that I can make up for the loss in the next semester and am expecting my associates from the Middlesex County College by the end of spring 2011. Hence I have gained a good knowledge and awareness about many subjects from the Middlesex County College, for which I am extremely grateful. Joining Rutgers will help me realize my long term ambition to learn and obtain a highly recognized degree in business and in addition the cutting-edge research opportunities offered by the university would help me apply my learning to contribute to the economy of the state and the nation. I believe that Rutgers University is the next big and vital step in my career and I assure that, if given a chance, I would definitely live up to the reputation of the university and do my best both academically as well in other co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and bring laurels to the university. Apart from academics, I have actively involved myself in several co-curricular activities. I was part of the international culture club in high school and a historian in the Future business leaders of America Club. I was part of the tennis club during my 10th grade. I also joined the art and knitting club and took crochet classes and was president of the Islamic society of Woodbridge high school during my 11 and 12 grades. I am also an active volunteer at the Astaana-e-Zehra school in the English town and at the Muslim Foundation INC since my 9th grade and I participate in the breast cancer walk every year. Thus given my social participation, I believe that the diverse learning environment at Rutgers University would help me to broaden by social network and would give me an opportunity to learn about new cultures and mingle with people from different ethnic groups. This commitment to diversity will help to meet the growing challenges of the global world reiterating the fact that this is an interdependent world and would help me to become a socially pro-active individual. I strongly believe that education should not be limited to realizing an individual’s own personal goals and maintaining their family, rather it should help them to contribute their best to the society in which they are living. In relation to this, I have learnt from the universities website that it is also contributing to sustaining the global environment through its green purchasing program that has a lesser negative impact on the environment and human health. In addition to this, the university also conducts a recycling and green cleaning program which is also environment-friendly. These programs will also help me to contribute to the global environment as I believe that all people can fully enjoy their fruits of labor only in a clean and green environment. When the surrounding environment is not congenial all developments and achievements of people will go wasted. For my working experience, I worked at DOTS as a sales associate in the summer of 2006. Beginning from December 2009 till May 2010, I worked as a teacher at Kumon learning center where I taught English and math to students who ranged from preschoolers to 12th graders. This experience helped me to connect with people of all age groups and gave me an opportunity to enhance my communication and language skills. In addition, educationally it was a great learning experience for me as I was exposed to a lot of new areas of study. Engaging with people helped me acquire several life skills which have definitely helped in my overall development and also instilled within me a sense of social responsibility and the need to contribute to the society at large. The Rutgers University is contributing to the growth of the economy and the society by providing solutions to several businesses, industries and other workforces globally. Hence this university would help me find the right place to work and would also help me to contribute to the economic growth. The university encourages new ventures based on ideas which are environment and economy friendly and hence would encourage me to implement my solutions in a more effective manner. In future I intend to apply for an internship at Credit Suisse during the summer of 2011 and am planning to apply for work at Bloomberg as after my graduation I am keen on finding full time work in New York either at Credit Suisse or in any other good concern. However, I would also be also open to other offers as I have a keen interest to learn and would not prefer to confine myself to any particular organization or concern. I strongly believe that every organization, big or small, will be a learning experience. I have detailed my educational and working experience to the best of my knowledge. Studying at a prestigious university such as Rutgers would give me an opportunity to develop my educational knowledge and improve other talents and skills and hence will definitely enable me to achieve personal enrichment and realize my career goals. Gaining adequate knowledge alone will not help a person to achieve his or her career goal; the knowledge should be also channelized in the right direction and used properly. The exposure and reach for students at Rutgers is enormous and I ensure that I will make the fullest use of every given opportunity and work to bring in laurels both to the university and the community at large. I intend to put the business skills that I would learn to effective use and reach higher levels of success through hard work and sincerity. Read More
