? Strategic Management In APA Format Executive Summary: A lot of changes can be incorporated into Methodist healthcare to make it a better organization than it currently is; this module has taught us several important aspects. Leadership was taught in the first week and every employee should have leadership abilities to be really able to contribute towards the organization, modern day organizations require several leaders to be really able to compete against other forces. Methodist healthcare would become so much better should the employees be taught about leadership and how to lead from the front. Working in teams was another important aspect which was taught in this module. The workforce in an organization would perform so much better should they start working in unison, all the leading organizations ensure that their employees work in teams and they are also quick to sort out any conflicts. Methodist healthcare should facilitate team work to be really able to compete and sustain, team work facilitates growth and prosperity, this is why almost all the organizations strongly recommend working in teams rather than working as individuals. Motivation is another factor which every organization must work upon, without motivation employees would find it hard to deliver their best and this is why the best organizations think out of the box to keep their employees motivated. The employees of Methodist healthcare must remain motivated to be really able to deliver the goods. A clear communication structure must also be established in Methodist healthcare so that there is no misunderstanding, a clear communication structure facilitates growth and it is extremely important. Methodist healthcare must incorporate all these important factors only then will it be able to grow. Week 1: Leadership Methodist healthcare is desperately in need of leaders who can lead from the front and motivate others too. There are three main leaders who oversee others; these leaders are short of leadership skills. The directions that they give are vague, many a time they are not even sure of themselves. Modern day leaders have to be assertive, without this integral quality no one can become a successful leader. Methodist healthcare is desperately in need of some young blood, age is taking its toll on the current leaders and they have not been able to do much. Pumping in young blood in the organization will redefine its goals and make the organization better. The new leaders should be chosen by the current leaders; the current leaders have an eye for talent but have time and again failed to motivate the employees and as a result of which Methodist healthcare has not been doing too well. “Good leaders are made not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience.” (Concepts of Leadership) Methodist healthcare would function so much better should the new leaders be appointed, the current leaders should appoint new leaders who can motivate the entire team and set an example, this is quite difficult and requires a lot of hard work and the right vision. Week 2: Teams/Groups/Conflict: The employees of Methodist healthcare must understand that working in teams would enhance their productivity and the organization would benefit from the same but at the same time the employees should also keep different conflicts which may occur in mind. Clarity is essential to avoid conflicts and clarity can only be defined and set by leaders. Each employee must have clear-cut directions to be really able to perform well. Working in teams is always good and all the top organizations instill this essential quality in all their employees. Week 3: Motivation: Working in teams is not enough, working with motivation is really important. Several employees of Methodist healthcare lack motivation. There are several ways of motivating the employees, praising them for performing well is perhaps the best way of motivating them. Giving them incentives and hikes is another way of motivating them. Currently at Methodist healthcare the leaders rarely praise the employee for their work. This is exactly why the employees remain de-motivated. It is high time for the leaders to start praising the work of the employees, even hikes can also be given to extract the best out of the employees. “The factors that motivate an individual keep changing as one climbs the ladder of age and maturity. And also, achievement of one goal sets the ball rolling for another one to be achieved. Thus, to be motivated is a constant need. There are times when one faces a period of de-motivation and everything seems bleak. It is then that they need to find what would motivate them back into action.” (Motivation) Week 4: Empowerment/Bullying Bullying at workplace can severely deter the growth of an organization and this matter should be reported to the management immediately so that an appropriate action can be taken. Empowerment of the employees, provide them with much needed confidence and a sense of belongingness. Methodist healthcare is really good at empowering the employees’; bullying is not a prevalent practice in this organization. There is also mutual respect but having mutual respect for each other is not enough, every employee should be a team player only then can an organization grow and become better. Week 5: Communication: Establishing a good communication network is essential in an organization, a system should be established which must be followed by every employee. This requires clear cut directions and reporting orders. Establishing a good communication system requires extensive planning, execution of the same is even tougher. Methodist healthcare lacks a good communication system and this is why there is utter chaos at times which directly affects the morale and the capacity of the employees, it is very important to solve this to be really able to grow as an organization. A good communication system also facilitates growth and long term stability. Week 6: Quality/Planning/Control/Ethics: Planning is essential to the success of every business and without proper planning long term stability is extremely difficult. Quality of the workforce is also another important factor which must be kept in mind at all times. Workforce depends on the HR, the human resources team should be capable enough to select and recruit employees who are dedicated and who would be an asset to any organization. A keen eye to recruit talent is essential; Methodist healthcare is way short of what is required. The HR team is inexperienced and the same is taking a toll on the organization. Recruiting the right people is really important but the organization has recruited some very ordinary workforce in the last round of recruitment. The HR team has to get better to be really able to take the organization to new heights. Controlling comes after planning and it is really important to keep reminding the employees about their goals and their long term targets. It is important to ensure that they reach their short term targets to be really able to reach their long term goals. Such short term targets should be set for every employee; this will bring the best out of the employees. Sometimes employees forget about the ethics and are only bothered about their targets; the management must step in then and make the employees understand the value of ethics and ethical behavior. “The meaning of "ethics" is hard to pin down, and the views many people have about ethics are shaky.” (What is Ethics?) Every organization must clearly define ethics and ethical behavior to avoid any misunderstandings with their employees only then can an organization work towards their goals and targets.
