? Taxonomy of learning Taxonomy of learning Taxonomy refers to the objectives of learning that were introduced in the year 1956 by a committee of which Benjamin Bloom was the chairperson. Actually, taxonomy classifies education into three major listings of groups that is affective, cognitive and psychomotor. The taxonomic classification has it some aims attached to it that was to help students identify and have a conducive leaning atmosphere. One of the people who is believed to have participated a lot in the process of taxonomic classing establishment was Benjamin. Benjamin as a committee chairperson, wanted to improve the level of understanding in students so as to deepen their understanding of the subject matter. Anderson has various believes in relation to excellence in a real life situation. Anderson’s argument and interpretation on intelligence of excellence is based on the Triarchic Theory on Intelligence. This theory entails three types of knowledge sub-sections that are; creative, analytical and practical knowledge and skills. All these sub-section of intelligence, have their basic roles to play. Creative part of the intelligence offers or creates room for acquiring and learning new things. This enables one to venture into various activities that need a lot of understanding and wise decisions. The analytical part of intelligence is used in planning, monitoring and evaluating the performance level of different tasks. This makes one to arrive at wise and ideal decisions that can help in making or enhancing academic success. Practical sub-section of intelligence is used in performing to various tasks. This gives one the potentiality to apprehend positively to their duties and responsibilities. Generally, intelligence can be linked to education in which all the qualities and sub-sections of intelligence are needed for a student to successfully accomplish their set goals and objectives in life. The goal of education is always based on promoting high level of thinking and the ability to interpret information. Education in this case should always major on individual strengths as they think or find more ideal or genuine ways of curbing their weaknesses through the implication of all the three sub-sections of intelligence. Some bits of efforts to enhance the successful implementation process successfully should also accompany the three sub-sections of intelligence. Intelligence as a basic factor of education should be handled with a lot of care. This cannot be handled physically but by the kind of actions involved in the school management system (National Association of Secondary School Principals, 2007). Learning institutions should also provide a conducive environment that can support the learning process so as to favor the comfort of scholars. This can really contribute in boosting the performance level of various institutions. There are also some of the things a part from intelligence instillation that various scholars and principals should know as far as the learning process is concerned. All the learning facilities should be availed to scholars so as to enable them have good reference and practical items that can enable them to understand their various subjects of study. Though the curriculum involved in the education systems of various institution in the world are effective There are still some little problems that tend to interfere with the whole thing. Some of these things are mainly centered on the quality of services received by the scholars. The school management system should ensure that all its staff members perform their duties and responsibilities to perfection. On the other hand, scholars are also supposed to apprehend positively to some of the rules and regulations of the school (Woollaccot, 2009). The strategic position of the school should also be considered so as to enhance a conducive position that can support learning process. The school or learning institution should be position or built in places free from excess noise that can disrupt the learning process. Noise is one of the poisonous obstacles faced by various learning institutions. The school management should also have an advanced communication system that can enable them arrive at decisions fast so as to avoid late decisions that can bring a lot of mess up in the school’s management system. As per my own perception, education is supposed to be learner centered so as to relive teaching staff of their excess duties and responsibilities. All the learning materials or necessities should be availed and technological improvements also introduced in various learning institution as these are some of the things or factors that can help in reducing the workload of the teaching staff. With all these learning facilities in place, the education system can be good and all learners or scholars can meet their aims and objectives in life (Vick , 2011). The world can graduate to the next level technological as all the learning necessities can be done through the internet of any other networking service linked to technology. Generally, the education system is good in various institutions though the only problems that arise are pegged on the location of the learning institutions and lack of technological communication links in learning institutions. Though the Triarchic theory majors its context on intelligence, there are very many things involved in instilling intelligence on the minds of scholars that needs a lot of time and wise decisions on how to manage various learning institutions. Intelligence in this case can only find its real meaning if accompanied by some activities of implementations. One of the basic activities that should be implemented of the education system is conducting of a proper assessment regularly on various learning institutions. This assessment should ensure that all the learning necessities are availed and the steps the institutions are making towards academic excellence (Hallinger, 2009. Teaching is a practice that needs a lot of experience because at times it becomes very difficult to capture students’ understandings due to the existence of two classes of understanding that was mentioned earlier. The two groups cannot rhyme because those with lower understanding power will seek for a repetition of one concept taught several times before it comes to their understanding. (Pritchard, 2001)“This is one of the challenges that teachers face and they should therefore find ideal ways of taking care of their lessons so as to benefit the two classes of understandings equally (Brewer.et.al, 2010). The method of teaching mentioned earlier in this paper is one of the basic styles of making all the learners get proper understanding of the subject being taught. I managed to come out with certain subject matters that have been of great importance to my life. Some of these matters have helped me in building my carrier because I had good foundation on them and also have a proper understanding to some of their basic concepts. Understanding can therefore be re or concluded as to be a basic requirement in the learning process and it applies to both the learner and the teacher. The teachers should also find alternative ways apart from the one mention in this paper of ensuring deep understanding to both their students and them. As it can be seen, taxonomy of learning is very important as it applies in very many fields of education. Taxonomy of education also helps in helping the two classes of understanding. There are also various categories of learning, as it does not only mean academics. Face book learning is one of the learning fields in which most of the students get both general and the basic knowledge. There are very many researches that have been carried out to aid taxonomy of leaning and face book leaning through some of the frequently asked questions. Results indicated that a majority of the students surveyed used Facebook more than once per day. These results show academia how important a tool Facebook can be for communication opportunities with students, and requires acknowledgement of Facebook’s influence on students in the college or university setting. This finding supports research from the literature review indicating that that Facebook is extremely popular with over five hundred million users (Facebook.com 2010), and with most of those users ranging in age from 18-49 which directly corresponds with the average college or university students’ age. Facebook has become more than a social networking platform for students; it has become a resource for information. The results from this study indicate that further work is needed to make more of a connection on how Facebook can be implanted within academia. Research Question 2 Research Question 2 asked: How often do undergraduate and graduate students report using online social networks within their educational studies? The findings of this study showed good internal consistency reliability between those students who use Facebook to receive help on assignments and those students that use Facebook as a form of communication with other students. When asked if they use Facebook to interact with other students, the majority of students reported that they do. The respondents did not report using Facebook to receive help however. This finding may be accurate or it may be due to the fact that it is often not considered appropriate to receive help on assignments. Further research should clarify this distinction. Finally, the results also indicate that Facebook has changed communication strategies of students as the majority of respondents reported that before they joined their school’s Facebook page they never used OSNs to communicate with classmates. As previously noted in chapter 2, the current findings corroborates research by Boyd (2006) showing that online social networks significant impact to the development of academia. This research adds to the literature and indicates that not all OSNs are created equal, and that Facebook is an especially popular communication tool for college students to discourse with their classmates. The current results are in contrast to Beiler (1994) who maintains that Facebook is just a tool for socializing. The current results indicate that college students are using social netweorks for educational purposes, and even some report for assistance with their academic studies. Additionally, Facebook allows all students to express themselves, and research has shown that some students are even more outspoken when they sit behind a computer because of a fear of public speaking (Evans et al., 1998). Perhaps Facebook can promote even greater academic achievement in populations who dislike face-to-face interactions. Facebook is a form of mass communication, and colleges can use Facebook to augment a student’s educational experience. Research Question 3 Research Question 3 asked: Are online tools and OSNs perceived as important in the educational process of students at the higher education learning level? The findings of this question showed high internal consistency reliability between the survey questions. The majority of respondents reported that Facebook was not important to their educational success, however more subjects reported that participation in OSNs and online communicates is important in their college experience. It is unclear why this disction was made. A large percentage of the population feels it is important to network with their classmates on Facebook. Research Question 4 Research Question 4 asked: To what extent do students of higher learning agree that the use of OSNs such as Facebook should be integrated into their higher educational experience? The findings of this question showed that students who use OSNs think OSNs should be implemented within education, and a large percentage report that they feel Facebook should be formally integrated into the educational process of high education as a requirement. This research supports finding by Yu indicating that the effects of online social networking on social learning is accompanied by empirical validation. The interest in using online tools and interactions in higher education, is rapidly growing due to its desirable advantages, such as providing access to individuals who previously faced limitations that barred them from accessing the education they desired . The current research indicates that students perceive Facebook to be an important tool in higher education. The fact that at least some of the respondents report strongly agreeing that Facebook is important and should be integrated into formal education, make the pursiut of this strategy worthy of further investigation and consideration, as it seems to change the educational landscape. Research Question 5 Research Question 5 asked: Is the current usage by student in education score and the general Facebook usage score significantly correlated with the students grade point average? Hypothesis 1a was that the current usage by student in education score will be significantly positively correlated with at students reported GPA. It was predicted that students reporting a higher current usage in education score will report higher GPAs. The results did not support the hypothesis, and there was no correlation obtained. That is, in this study population it can be concluded that Facebook use in education does not impact GPA positively or negatively. Future research should be conducted using other outcome measures to determine the impact of Facebook on education. Hypothesis 1b that general Facebook usage scores would be significantly negatively correlated with a student’s reported GPA was supported. The results indicate that students reporting a higher general Facebook usage score had a significantly lower GPA. This significant and negative relationship differes from the above (Facebook use for education) outcome and possibly suggests that students using Facebook excessively and for purposes other than education are possibly compromising their GPA. Future research needs to be conducted to determine if this result can be replicated. References Pritchard, D. (2001)“The Value of Knowledge” In The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.
