Business: Christian Ethics Moral Compass INTRODUCTION: The decision making compass guides the users in their desire to improve the leadership process. The research delves on the importance of the decision making compass. The research delves on the four modes of the compass. The compass values enhance the leadership process. The decision making compass areas: A) Purpose-Will this action Serve a worthwhile purpose? The end must be worthwhile. The business is correct in pursuing its purpose. The main purpose is to generate revenues, a worthwhile purpose. To generate revenues the business enterprise is correct in implement the means to achieve the purpose. The business of using the competitors’ prices as a basis for setting up the company or store’s selling prices is excellent. Customers normally prefer lower priced goods over the higher priced goods (Griffin, 2010). Going back to the issue, reducing the store prices to the level set by the competitors is economically correct. The store will be able to generate revenues. More customers will flock into the store to buy the products and services. With the high demand, the company or store will be able to stay in business for many years (Johnsons, 2011). In addition, the giving of warranties to customer will achieve the company or store’s purpose. The warranties will encourage the customers to trust the company or store. The warranties assure the customers that the company or store will be able to back up its sales pitches. Warranties ensure that the clients will be able to return the products for repair or replacement, when the products malfunction within the warranty period of six months (Griffin, 2010). Further, the company or store’s purpose process includes lowering its expenses in order to achieve the revenue targets. Lowering the store’s expenses allows the reduction of the company or store’s selling prices. The company or store correctly used old parts that were recycled from other machines. The chosen machine sources are either damaged or no longer in use (Gill, 2011). In addition, God emphasized, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it (Genesis 2:15).” The first man, Adam, was immediately given a purpose in life. His job was to manage the Garden of Eden. Adam was immediately given a purpose in life, to take care of the Garden. As the story goes, Adam was also required to comply with some of God’s rules. The rules include God’s prohibiting Adam from eating from the fruit of life. Just like in any organization, everyone, especially the organization’s requiring the leaders to comply with organizational rules. Craig Johnson (2011) emphasized that the purpose of leadership is to ensure that ethical values are implemented. Ethics incorporates the many academic disciplines and traditions. Traditions include all the morality teaching of the philosophers. In addition, ethics includes concepts from political science, psychology, management, communication, education, sociology, and other related fields of study. Leaders have the ethical responsibility to promote positive leadership. In the business environment, each leader has a purpose. The leader must do whatever it legally and ethically takes to achieve the purpose. When the leader does not meet the purpose requirements, the leader may be stripped of his or her power and authority. In the same light, the store’s leaders have to achieve its purpose. To achieve the purpose the leaders should not exceed the ethical and legal benchmarks (Johnson, 2011). B) Principle-Is this action consistent with relevant principles? The company or store is correct in keeping the company or store’s prices low. The company or store is right in keeping the current and prospective customers informed of any changes in the company or store’s products and services. The company or store should advertise its various quality products and services in order to keep the current and prospective customers abreast of the latest product and service promotions. Consequently, the lowering of prices consistently comply the company or store’s relevant principles (Griffin, 2010). Further, leadership principles include cooperation (Fairholm, 2011). The leader cannot move mountains without the cooperation of the subordinates. To accomplish this, the leader can use different types of leadership techniques. To the person who is lazy, the leader may have encouraging the same person to contribute to the betterment of the world. This includes the store’s encouraging its employees to fill the different needs and demands of the current and prospective customers. Consequently the customers will spread the news that the company or store makes them feel very important. Likewise, the company or store must keep its principle of fairness, another relevant principle. Fairness includes offering the same prices to the most number of current and prospective customers. Fairness includes giving the same quantity of discounts to the company or store’s present and future customers (Griffin, 2010). Principles include filling the demands of many of the company or store’s present and future clients. Evidently, the company or store will not be meeting its social responsibility principles if the company or store sells defective products. Customers will continually buy from a company or store that espouses principles that favor the present and future clients (Griffin, 2010). Also, principles include major business principles. The management must offer the company or store’s products to generate profits. The company or store must never sell the products for selfish interests alone. The company or store has to ensure the products will enhance the life of the people. To enhance the life of the people, the products should be tested for quality achievements (Griffin, 2010). In addition, leadership includes certain unwarranted leadership acts. The bible states “Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit (Mat: 15:14).” If the store’s purpose is to attain its objective, then the company or store needs quality leadership. Quality leadership includes knowledge of how to generate the required revenues. Quality leadership includes maximizing the company or store’s scarce resources to generate the benchmark requirements. However, if the store’s leader has no technical and personal expertise in marketing, the company or store may not be able to reach its objectives or goals, in this case generating the required revenues. C) People-Does this action respect legitimate claims of the people likely to be affected? The company or store is right in stating that their prices should be kept down. The company or store is also right in stating that it has to supply high quality work to its employees. The people will only buy from a company or store that fills their needs. The people will patronize a company or store that offers quality goods, not inferior goods. The people will line up to buy products from companies that have built a good business name. Leadership that is grounded on moral principles will ensure continuing business success. Morality includes the character, habit, or custom of the person (Rhode, 2006). Consequently, the action respects the legitimate claims of the affected individuals. In addition, the company or store has the ethical responsibility to be socially responsible. Social responsibility entails doing what is good for the people. Doing good includes offering affordable prices for the company or store’s goods and services (Johnson, 2011). Further, the leaders have can combine work and faith to develop a strong community. However, many leaders affirmed that organizational pressures forced them to implement unethical and often illegal acts, like presenting false reports to mislead the public of the company or store ’ true financial and business status (Pava, 2004). Further, the clue to the solution is the implementation of ethical standards (Paine, 2003). The company or store rightfully applies ethics in its decision making activities. Ethics is defined as doing what the majority of the people prefer. In the business environment, the majority of the participants are the people. The business owners are the minority, in terms of number of parties significantly affecting the business transaction. Furthermore, the company or store must avoid creating an unfavorable image of the company or store, implementing the fairness principle and ethics (Paine, 2003). The customers will normally not hesitate to complain, if the products are defective or not working. The customer will ask for the replacement of a defective item. The company or store will be forced to replace the defective units. Some customers may insist on the return of their payments. In fact, some irate customers may even shout and reprimand the company or store, store, for violating the principle of fairness. Also, leadership should be through example, creating teamwork (Dubrin, 2012). The people, the present and future clients of the store have their needs, wants, and sometimes caprices. The people come to the store to purchase the goods and services. The store has to keep its store shelves filled with top selling products. The store’s products must not cause discomfort, pain, and other damaging effects on the present and future clients. Paine (2003) insists that ethics does pay. For ethics should form part of the business environment, removing business companies’ selling of defective goods and dangerous goods. The current status where companies present false financial reports, favoritism among the employees and officers, unauthorized distribution of business information, protection of the environment, and unsafe employee working atmosphere should be resolved. The resolution should be in favor of implementation f social responsibility, and other ethical standards. Paine (Pain) laments that the ethical standards of yesteryears have dropped to very unethical levels. Paine insists that companies must reduce their profit targets in order to surpass their responsibility to truly serve the people’s needs, not just to gain profits. D) Power-Do we have the power to take this action? The son cannot expand without authority. The owner, the father, will surely fume mad when he finds out the son did not ask permission when he implemented a new store policy. Even if the company or store’s revenues increase, the son still does not have the authority to implement plans without the authority of the father (Fairholm, 2011). Likewise, authority includes having the power to make any adjustments in the company or store’s store premises. The son cannot hire additional store sales employees, without the father’s permission. The son should never sell any of the store furniture without the father’s authorization. Further, the son cannot offer discounts to the company or store’s present and future clients without the approval of the owner, his father (Johnson, 2011). Further, authority includes acts that are not usual. For example, the son cannot sell a damaged store product at a lower selling price thinking that the owner will probably approve the sale. The son should never presume that he is authorized to perform any business acts. The son must always seek the authority of the father. By doing so, misunderstanding is reduced to allowable levels (Fairholm, 2011). Likewise, leadership includes the power to do some good or harm. The leadership is not only reserved for the born leaders. Circumstances persuade some people to take up leadership roles. Leadership normally means authority. Ethical leadership includes characteristics of humility optimistic, courage compassion, and making wise decisions. Leadership includes people implementing bad or unethical leadership (Johnson, 2011). Further, even during the New Testament Bible times, power was also the issue among the Jews. The bible states, “…Jesus answered, “You have no power over me if it were not given to you from above… (John 19:10-11)”. Jesus answered Julius Caesar’s recommendations in order prevent the crucifixion of Jesus. The story goes that the people were made to choose who to free between a convicted criminal and Jesus Christ. The people chose to free the convicted felon. The people believed that Jesus Christ had committed a death-inviting crime, blasphemy. The people could not take the statements of Jesus that he is the Son of God. However, Jesus answered the emperor’s invitation by stating the meaningful statement above to indicate the emperor had no authority or power over the predestined destiny of Jesus Christ. Conclusion: Summarizing the above discussion, the decision making compass helps the users improve their leadership responsibilities. The four modes of the compass have different leadership areas. The compass incorporates the leadership concepts. Evidently, the morality/ethical compass values ensure leadership compliance with the entity’s and the people’s requirements. REFERENCES: Dubrin, A.
