Read Article and Answer  Read Article and Answer Ed’s purpose as he communicates with Dan What Is Ed’s Purposeas He Communicates with Dan?Ed’s intention is to intimidate Dan. On phone, Ed is and is arrogant to the person he is communicating to on the telephone. This is the first sign of intimidating Dan. Later on, Ed ushers Dan in the office with his back, facing outside the window. In addition, Ed starts the conversation with questions about the marketing department of which Dan is a member.

Ed also continues interrogating Dan without allowing him to respond to the questions which he is asking. He insinuates that the marketing department is a place where no work is done. He presumes it to be where all the lazy and incompetent people are located. He also shows him a copy of a memo, does not listen to Dan’s explanations, and dismisses him. Ed is using these tactics to show Dan that John Green was not running the marketing department in the correct way. Does He Achieve It? Ed achieves his intention.

Ed Harley communicates as much information on the marketing department as required in the context. Dan is not eager to meet him. This is because of his perceived role of sacking employees in the corporation. His purpose of communication to Dan is to convey the flaws of the marketing department so that Dan can comprehend the anticipated meaning of his words and actions. Moreover, Ed’s action and words convey just enough to highlight his intention. He relies on Dan to translate the details of what he does not openly convey.

His utterances give Dan the chance to deduce meaning of his intention. Ed provides a clue of his intention to Dan through his words and action. Dan submits, this is evident on his responses.
