Business Management with psychology - Personal Statement Example

Personal ment I chose to study business management with psychology because both disciplines will give me great opportunity to come up with more diverse skills and perspectives together with appreciating interdisciplinary connections as I am passionate about business and this will enable me interact better with people. Different characteristics of business management with an example of human resource management as well as marketing derive most of their theory from psychology and so studying both subjects will help me understand and enjoy the other.

Despite the fact that combining both subjects will prove to be challenging as stated by Smith, (2012), I am equally self-motivated and independent minded as well as vocationally and intellectually ambitious. I want to study both business management and psychology as having two fields of skills and expertise will be imperative should I decide to change careers in the future. These days employers are putting more priority in the need for individuals who have vast subject skills and knowledge and not necessarily searching for a certain discipline (Smith, 2012).

I have always had a passion for business and therefore having ample knowledge in psychology will help me understand many things for instance, people’s business aspects, as the most part of business management will involve dealing with people. Psychology will therefore help me understand how people think and also behave. Psychologists are experts in cognitive processes like thinking, memory and reasoning, people’s actions and inner experience and so should be business managers who are concerned with satisfaction of the employees and productivity.

Therefore with this, it is clear that having a degree in both business management and psychology will enable me to have both overlapping and complimentary sets of skills. Currently I am studying Applied Business, which has helped me gain a great understanding of the running of business organizations, their management, the internal workings of markets and business they serve. By studying Applied Business, I am more aware of how business affects everyone and also how the environment people live in affects business.

Additionally, I have developed a wide range of skills with examples of decision-making, communication and problem solving skills and also how to quantify and evaluate information. I have come to learn that communication skills are extremely vital not just in business but also in the way we relate with people and so having acquired them I am now able to express myself to the people I associate with confidently. Since almost a third of Applied Business entails examinations, I have mastered skills to manage my time so that I may study hard and come out successful in the main exams we take.

I believe proper time management is extremely vital in the success of a student and so I usually prioritize my work. I can describe myself as a hardworking go-getter who believes that a good education can take you places in the world we live in. I have a passion for business and thus I was a member of the business club in school whereby we did a lot of business activities meant to raise money for improving the club. I have also worked as a volunteer in the mentoring program which is meant to inspire and guide students.

According to Ostrow, (2008) being in business means that one has to be a leader and so enrolling in the mentorship programs brings out the leader in me as I help students in various activities and also with their school work. From the volunteer program I have learned quite a lot: being patient with people, effective communication and much more. My future career includes working for a prominent business company that will see me achieve my objectives and apply the skills that I have learnt in my entire school life.

I would want to work for companies that will challenge me intellectually and make me want to come up with great solutions to improve the business world in a profound way. Combining business management and psychology is the best path to achieving a successful career later on in future and with the high unemployment rate, being skilled in two marketable disciplines will help me a great deal.
