? My self assessment Self assessment entails a process of whereby a person evaluates the aspects that can be considered essential to a person’s identity. Self assessment can also be regarded as the process of “knowing yourself”, which involve considering one’s likes, personal characteristics, wants, values, dislikes, and needs. Some of the aspects of self assessment include interests, skills, personality type, abilities, work values, preferred work environment among others. This study will explore my self assessment for the past three weeks. In this paper, I will focus on the following questions in the order in which they occur: who am I? How do I interact with others? How well do I fit with the organization? Who am I? Personality insights According to Boud (1995), personality insights entail the characteristics, behaviors, feelings, and thoughts that play apart in making a person unique and different from others. The personality of an individual arises from within him, or herself and tends to remain consistent throughout a person’s lifetime. In my assessment, my basic personality can be regarded as that of extroversion. This is because I have high scores in aspects such as being talkative, outgoing, and sociable. As an extrovert, I get energized by being around other people, as I am not a loner. I am a personality type A, because I ma never late to attend to my activities. Besides, my degree of competitiveness is remarkably high, as I like to compete and achieve the best results. In addition, I am also driven and like doing many things at once, eat fast, and do other things extremely fast. As a type A personality, I also express feelings and have many varying interests (Boud, 1995). Values and Attitudes Insights Boud (1995) asserts that values may entail convictions of what can be regarded as acceptable, right, or desirable to a person. The values of a person reflect what they hold to be more powerful and what takes preference in their life. All values stand out to be essential, as there are no values that can be considered as being either wrong or right. When it comes to terminal values, I value happiness and satisfaction in life. The second most notable terminal value in my life is security and freedom from threat, followed by knowledge and wisdom. To me, the fourth central terminal value turns out to be prosperity and wealth, while self respect and pride in accomplishment are the fifth and sixth most significant value respectively. Peace and love in the world and recognition from peers hold number seven and eight respectively in terms of terminal values. The least significant terminal values to me are lasting friendships and salvation. The most prominent instrumental value in my life is self sufficiency and independence, and the second one is being helpful and caring towards others. I value autonomy; as I strive towards being able to be less dependent on other people to assist me achieve my goals (Boud, 1995). In addition, I care for other people and tend to be helpful, whenever people face me with a problem. Hard work and achievement are my third most significant value, while open-mindedness and receptivity to new ideas stands out to be the fourth most prominent value. Thus, I am extremely involved in my job, as I strive to get the best results. Truthfulness, being well mannered and courteous towards others, and education and intellectual pursuits are the fifth, sixth, and seventh most significant value, to me. Dependability and being counted on by others is my eighth most powerful value, while assertiveness is the ninth value. The least critical value, to me, is obedience that entails following the wishes of others. In my own assessment, I value workplace diversity; this is because I am receptive to other people’s ideas. I welcome change in the workplace, as I rarely hold on to the normal and usual ways of doing things. Therefore, I am always ready to listen to what other people have to say in the workplace. Motivation insights Boud (1995) note that motivation refers to an aspect that controls, elicits and directs certain kinds of behavior within individuals. What motivates an individual can be equated to things that encourage him or her to partake some form of behaviors and sustain the behavior over a period. I am motivated by good pay for my work; I strive aim to get the best and the highest income for every remunerable task that I perform. The most dominant needs in my life are existence needs; they score highly as compared to relatedness and existence needs. In addition to god pay, I am also motivated by frequent raises in pay. Therefore, I am motivated to work for a high salary, as well as do a job whereby the income is being raised from time to time. A complete fringe benefit program is extremely valuable to me; in this regard, I prefer to work in an organization where employees are valued, and treated with a lot of care. I am also motivated by a sense of security from bodily harm; therefore, I prefer being secured from circumstances that may tend to cause danger in my life. Based on my needs and the things that motivate me, it is clear that I am motivated by extrinsic rewards, rather than intrinsic rewards (Boud, 1995). Things that are external to my life such as fair pay, for the work I do and decent working conditions motivate me in life. Therefore, the source of my motivation is not from within, but from outside. The needs that determine my existence and how I live my life motivate me a lot, as they control what I prefer. Decision Making Insights According to Boud (1995), decision making insights refer to the things that determine how we make decisions as well the decisions that we might reach at in various situations, in life. They guide human beings to come up with the most prominent and desirable solution to problems that they face in life. My decision making style can be regarded as analytic, since I assess the situation before coming up with a decision about the issue of concern. In making business decisions, I consider the moral values and ethics that are particularly essential in guiding decision making. In my opinion, the only moral of a business enterprise is not making money. Besides profit, other things that should guide a business enterprise; business persons should be concerned with the needs of the society. Business decisions should not always entail an economic aspect; moral perspectives should also be considered when coming up with decisions. In my view, ethics in business is a combination and a balance between the way people behave and expectations. The salaries of employees should not always be determined by the laws of demand and supply. There should not be rules that ought to be followed in the business world. As such, the business world does not have its own rules; guidelines to be followed in the business world can be set up according to the business being carried out (Boud, 1995). In my opinion, when making business decisions, it will be essential to consider morals as they relate to the law. Based on this, one should not always act according to the law, as doing so can result in going wrong morally. According to me, conditions of a free economy should not be allowed to prevail in the society; competition should be considered as a crucial aspect of business. I am not a procrastinator, as I do not like postponing things to a later date; I prefer doing things once and for all. I like attending to my duties on due time, rather than doing them, when time is just about to end. Other insights Emotional intelligence includes skills that enable a person to cope with the demands, as well as pressures of the work environment, my emotional intelligence score is 39. I tend to be exceptionally skilled at personal planning, as I think before I act, very god at handling myself during social situations, and I am also aware of any change in my feelings. I am persistent at going after things which I want. In addition, I also concerned about others as I empathize with people after listening to their problems (Boud, 1995). How do I interact with others? Communication skills My face to face communication style includes some non verbal cues that serve to indicate my feelings towards what the speaker is saying. The non verbal cues that I normally use, during face to face communication, include a nod and frowning. In addition, I may frequently attempt to listen to several conversations at the same time; this gives me the ability to employ non verbal gestures in communicating. When it comes to listening skills, I can consider myself an expert listener tom people’s conversations. I can support this on the basis that I usually respond immediately when someone has finished speaking. In addition, I also make an effort to listen to other people’s point of view. I am also capable of listening to several conversations at once (Boud, 1995). Leadership and team skills My leadership style is democratic, as I allow all members of a team to have a stake in the management and the daily running of the team and the entire organization. Whenever a team forms, I make sure that all the members of the team get to meet and know each other. I answer team members’ questions and clarify goals and expectations of the team to the rest of the members. I am also keen in articulating the goals and the vision that the team should strive to achieve. As a democratic leader, I am keen to realize the need for the involvement of all team members in achieving the goals and the purposes that the team has set to attain (Boud, 1995). Power and conflict handling skills My preferred power type is legitimate power that stems from the position I hold and the title accorded to me in the organization. I spend a lot of time networking with others and making connections. Most people around me feel comfortable, and at ease, I develop excellent rapport with other persons, understand them well, and have a strong network of people who I can refer to when I want things done. In addition, I do not spend a lot of time at the work place making connections with other people. I am proficient at making proper use of my connections and networks to make things work out properly at my place of work (Boud, 1995). How well do I fit with the organization? Organizational structure needs When it comes to giving performance feedback, I can be regarded to be good. I evaluate the undesirable behavior of other persons and strive to tell them what they should do to avoid the future occurrence of the behavior. In addition, I am god at balancing both the negative and positive feedback that a form of behavior is likely to evoke. I also try to talk about the behavior with the person as soon as the behavior happens, rather than wait after some time, to tell them. Career needs I am committed to my work and organization as I strive towards achieving for myself and my work group. I also like being assertive, active, and protecting the members of the group I work with, in my organization. In addition, I am wiling to perform routine and day to day duties and administrative tasks of my organization. Therefore, I can be regarded to be highly committed to the affairs of my organization, as I value my workmates and those above me in the organization (Boud, 1995). Change and stress insights According to Boud (1995), burnout at the work place includes having stress that persists for a long period. This stress may affect one’s performance at work, interaction with others in the work place, as well as relationships with family members. My life cannot be regarded to be that stressful because I am often happy, rarely depressed, and usually, I have a happy day. Besides, I do not feel physically tired most of the times, I never feel rejected, hopeless, and I am rarely weak and susceptible to illness. I never become weary, feel worthless, or trapped; as such, my life becomes less stressful. Thus, I can conclude that my life is not that stressful, as not many things are likely to stress me. In conclusion, the paper has summarized my self assessment. In this paper, I have discussed who I am, how I interact with others, and how well I fit in the organization. In my analysis, I have given a clear picture of my personality type, values and attitudes, communication skills, and what motivates me.
