It is used for the development of a Crisis Management and Communication Plan, as detailed:
- The development of a crisis management plan which should be consistent with a framework for crisis planning pertinent to the food industry as presented by Bednall and Gray (2000); where, as noted, “crisis plans may include details of possible incidents or scenarios to test the plan before it is ever needed and to give practical guidance to those who have to use it” (p. 85).
- To work with a Communication Specialists company that would assist in the development, design, implementation, and monitoring of the communication plan.
- The communication plan would include risk and crisis communication, as emphasized by Telg (2010): “Part of that overall crisis plan should be the integration of crisis communication” (p. 1).

The proposed development and implementation of these plans would be within six months upon approval. The amount to be invested would be marginal as compared to the cost that would be incurred if the organization fails to prepare these plans and be subject to legal concerns that could ensue from food contamination cases, food recall, or loss of goodwill. For your review and approval.

Under the recent proposal to the Board of Directors to develop and design a  Crisis Management and Communication Plan for Edible Delights Pty Ltd., I am very pleased to announce that the Board has unanimously approved this endeavor. To reiterate, one rationalized that the need for these plans is crucial given the disturbing news that potentially exposes food manufacturers, like us, to various threats, risks, and vulnerabilities that could lead to serious food contamination.

As such, with the Board’s approval, the Crisis Management Plan is seen to address the following, as revealed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service (2008):
- Identification of threats;
- Designing a food defense plan;
- Being able to appropriately prepare, respond, manage, and recover from crisis; and
- Be aware of each role and responsibility, as required.

Likewise, the Communication Plan, which would be designed, in conjunction with a Communication Specialist, aims to provide crucial information before, during, and after the crisis (Hogue, 2001).

The proposed development plan would ensure six months from the date of approval, which is today. As such, everyone’s participation and collaboration in the solicitation of crucial information that would be used in the development phase would be cordially welcomed.
