Walmart decided to embrace SoLoMo technologies, which utilize in-store geo-fencing to automatically identify its location-aware mobile app as customers make their way into any of its retail chains. Once inside, customers can easily change the app to store mode from online mode, thus creating room for them to enjoy interactive in-store experiences such as scanning bar codes for pricing and going through Wal-Mart’s interactive in-store circular, which will enable them to keep a record of everything they've bought thus tracking overall expenditure. This new change adopted by the organization gives customers the ability to switch from online to store mode, allowing Wal-Mart app users to compare prices with other eTail sites and customers will now be able to purchase out-of-stock items online (Paul, Lori, & Hayagreeva, 2010).

2. How effective are the leaders at your chosen organization in guiding positive change?

 Wal-Mart was formed by Sam Walton. It was Sam’s leadership that brought about the rapid growth of Wal-Mart’s success. This colossal achievement was achieved as a result of Sam’s vision that he nurtured to realization by incorporating leadership and management practices that were highly effective. Wal-Mart’s current commitment to valuing people in the entire facet of its leadership, management, and culture was cultivated over time (Wollam, 2009).

  1. How would you improve the change leadership process at this organization? Provide your suggestions and recommendations for improvement and explain why they will promote positive change within the organization.
  • Enhance top-down communication. Any alterations in an organization’s direction should be dealt with very fast and at all levels.
  • Come up with a comprehensive mission statement for the organization's mission statement with its activities aligned with the organization's vision. For example, Walmart’s primary goal is to offer and deliver high-quality goods all marketing, advertising, research, and development activities should be focused on the quality of goods, modes, and speed of delivery.
  • Task forces that bring together the organization’s leadership to discuss strategy should be created. This task force will be working together to come up with short- and long-term road maps for the organization which align with the organization's vision.
  • A rewards system should be set up which will be linking employee bonuses to the individual, team, division, and organization performance.
  • Formulate an organizational hierarchy chart that will be assigning authority to employees based on their current role in the organization. Improve the leadership by creating room for employees to take on more responsibility and swap positions as they mature (Yuansheng, 2011).
