Political and economic factors in Greece Economic factors The economy of the world exudes deep influences from developments in ICT. This is evident as indicated by the fact that every contemporary business in the world focuses on the integration if ICT in order to obtain some of the benefits that they offer. Greece, which is one of the member countries in the European Union, is trying to exploit some of the considerations of exploiting some of the possibilities of economic growth through ICT developments (Fleenor and Raven, 2000, 33).

The main reason for exploiting the possibilities is for the utilization of ICT in creating a suitable environment for the improvement of its economy. It is possible to take note of the fact that the technological infrastructure in Greece is satisfactory, but the general degree of computer usage is wanting. For the success of e-commerce in the country, it would be necessary for the government to develop policies that encourages the implementation of ICT through the adaptation of the technological applications into the various activities.

The Greek economy has a lot of microenterprises and SMEs, which consider ICT as unnecessary. The reason for the exclusion of ICT by the enterprises is that the immediate benefits of the integration might seemingly not outweigh the investments in the ICT infrastructure. In order for the government to get involved in the development of a suitable framework for the achievement of economic growth, it decided to operate within the framework of the European Union, which has some programs specifically for enterprises, in order to support some of the networking initiatives for the businesses.

In support of the information supply mechanisms, the government ensures that it takes advantage of the ICT initiatives through training the members of staff, which ensures an indisputable acquisition of ICT benefits to the economy. The disadvantage of this is that funding for the training programs is inadequate. Political factors The political factors that have an influence on the development of ICT in the Greek market are somehow related to the economic factors. In comparison to some of the other countries in the European Union, for instance, turkey, it is possible to insinuate that the ICT infrastructure in the Greece is one of the worst.

This is despite the fact that the country has the longest history of funding from the European Union. One factor that has led to the lagging behind of Greece in ICT infrastructural development is related to governmental policies, which was previously monopolized by the state-controlled landline organization (Economist Intelligence Unit 2009, 53). However, through the creation of suitable policies through Greece’s governmental changes, there is a renewed commitment by the government to develop some of the ICT infrastructural initiatives.

It is possible to argue that Greece’s initiative is somewhat similar to the initiatives by Turkey. For this reason, the government uses some much of its funds to the development of ICT infrastructure that is necessary for improving the economy of the country. Nevertheless, the country faces administrative as well as political challenges that are likely to shift the government away from its ICT goals (Economist Intelligence Unit 2009, 36). Some of the initiatives have stalled due to the poor or lack of effective coordination between the government and the existing businesses.

This coordination has hampered the progression of the plan that was set-up by the state to develop an ICT venture capital firm, whose goal was to invest in some of the local start-ups. For this reason, there is a possibility of indicating that improper political or administrative considerations have minimized the success of some of the ICT initiatives by the government.
