Action Accountability as a Good Organizational Control Effort Action Accountability as a Good Organizational Control Effort Controlling as one of the management s functions, carries a lot of weight in the organization’s success in achieving its goals. For this reason, the management of any organization needs to evaluate the several control efforts that interlink with the company’s current state of technology and choose the best effective efforts (Evans &Lindsay 2006). Equity bank Group is a financial institution ranked high among the successful institutions in the east Africa where it is located.

Its success story is backed up a very innovative top manager, James Mwangi who exercises his duties in a very professional manner. In controlling, equity bank applies action accountability that holds each employee accountable for their actions. Having trained employees on their responsibilities, each employee is left to act under minimal supervision keeping in mind that the outcome of his/her action has either a positive or negative implication on his/her performance record. Operating in a very competitive industry, Equity Bank’s management uses controlling as business strength so as to move ahead of its competitors (Alembi, 2009), who seem to have similar strategic plans.

As a matter of fact, all financial organizations in the region have almost equal capacities to acquire employees, resources and mobilize their clients. However, through action accountability, equity bank has managed to rapidly grow relative to other financial institutions. In implementing this control effort, the management allows for both internal and external control of their employees. Through internal control, the management relies on employees, especially heads of various departments but not restricting the lower class employees, to exercise self-control.

In fact, the employees who are preliminarily motivate by the fact that they will be rewarded for extra ordinarily good performance, are allowed to fulfill their job expectations by their own will and procedures. Moreover, equity bank provides their employees with sufficient resources and clear performance objectives that enable them deal with millions of clients to whom they have to attend to. In addition to self-control, each employee is answerable to an administrator who minimally supervises him, and is linked with performance appraisal system and employee discipline system that reward or punish extreme cases of performance respectively.

However, although there are rewards and punishments, the firm capitalizes on always correcting its employees in efforts to improving individual performance in future. It’s to the benevolent of every man to improve on his skills. Equity bank therefore focuses on attracting talented people in every field (Alembi, 2009). Motivation of current performing employees not only retains the acquired talents but also encourages them to apply maximum efforts on their duties. Moreover, by accounting for what they have done the employees feel that their efforts have been recognized by management.

Therefore, they will strive more towards achieving the firm’s objectives. Given that the company defines the limits of acceptable behavior precisely during training s and manuals, employees find it easy differentiating the do and donts. Moreover, through the computerized system used by banking system, where employees has to login to a portal from where to perform from, the bank management can easily track the behaviors that their employees are engaged in and analyze them in terms of the accrued benefits.

In a nutshell, the success of equity bank is attributed to the good and reliable management functions. As a matter of fact equity bank has been differentiating its managerial functions from others not excluding controlling. The choice of action accountability as an effort of controlling has seen the bank progress rapidly in terms of effectiveness and economic progress.ReferencesAlembi, E. (2009).
