? Personal Ethics Development Paper Personal values and ethical conduct are significant in the development of a person. The level of professionalism can be seen through a person’s ethical standards and norms. A person’s attitude, way of dressing and behavior reflect the personality. In the real world people, judge an individual by the ethical conduct displayed by the person. The ethical mannerisms of the person reflect the background in which the person was raised. The essay will discuss in detail personal development of ethics, definition of ethical system, effects of ethics on my performance both at home and at the workplace and the need of ethical integration in an organization. Ethics of a person is developed from a tender age. Majority of people learn about ethical behavior from home, school, and church among other institutions. In addition, a person’s ethical conduct also developed through the people that exist in the life of a person. Ethical behavior is developed at childhood. Nonetheless, ethical behavior keeps on developing as a person’s matures (Trevino & Nelson, 2007). The behavior I came to adapt is the normative ethics. This kind of ethical behavior assisted in my decision making in addition, through ethical conduct I could differentiate between right and wrong. Throughout my life, normative, ethical conduct has been my foundation and it has assisted in my growth and development. Normative ethics is more practical and assist in enhancing moral standards and norms. In addition, through normative ethics one is able to differentiate between right and wrong. Good habits and appropriate moral behavior also enhanced by normative, ethical conduct. In addition, normative, ethical behavior also teaches a person that every moral behavior followed by consequences of the action (Trevino & Nelson, 2007). Therefore, both the negatives and the positives moral conduct have their impacts in life. I am more of a practical person and this kind of ethics has been my foundation for years. My self-esteem and moral conduct throughout my life have been guided by normative, moral behavior. I have encountered people with different moral values and principles depending on where the person came from and the people involved in the person’s life. My parents and the spiritual leaders in the church are the people involved in building my ethical system. My parents were authoritative, and they advised me to lead by example. Further, they taught me not everyone is perfect in life; nonetheless, living in a manner that portrayed respectful behavior in front of people should be my priority. In addition, I was advised to behave in accordance to the wishes of Christ. In church, my spiritual leaders would advise the entire congregation, and I “to practice what we preach”. They recommend the phrase often because they believed ethical conduct could be enhanced through the phrase. Nonetheless, the behavior of the churchgoers surprised me. I did not comprehend their behavior, on Sunday, they would be polite and welcoming, but during the week, they would portray a very different behavior. My parents taught me otherwise and told me living by example should be my priority. Therefore, as I grew I ensured my words and actions were similar. My ethical conduct was significant in my life, behaving according to social norms and beliefs were my priority. Another motivator to my ethical conduct was the bible. I applied the word of God in my daily life incorporated by normative ethical system; therefore, improving my conduct around people and making a wise decision when need arises. Through the bible, I learnt a number of things that could shape my ethical conduct, in addition, my decision-making criteria also enhanced by the bible. In my development of ethical conduct, I also made mistakes that assisted in shaping me up. When I was a teenager, I made a mistake of going out with my friends without the permission of my parents. I was curious about what people did when they were out, and the only solution was to sneak. My parents are strong believers of religion, and they would not allow me to go out at night. When we were out it was fun, and I enjoyed every bit. Nonetheless, the teenagers we were with, were taking alcohol and drugs illegally. The police given a tip off and they surprised us. I was innocent because I was not taking any thing illegal. Nonetheless, because I was with the group it was difficult to assume I was not involved. We were taken to the police station, and our parents summoned. I felt so humiliated and ashamed of my behavior. I looked at the face of my parents, and I could see the disappointment look. We were checked and those of us not guilty of taking alcohol and using drugs were released, my parents were so mad, and they scolded me on the way home. They advised me not to repeat a similar mistake again and avoid children who lacked manners. I learnt my lesson in the hard way and from then I ensured the bible guided my decision making so that I could avoid mistakes at all cost. My parents and the church leaders had invested in ensuring a grew morally upright. I swore to make them proud henceforth. The impact of ethical conduct displayed one day when I as at workplace. The supervisor summoned all employees in my department for unscheduled meeting. In the meeting, we were told to watch a video of an employee who took bribes from customers. The supervisor was furious and advised us to practice acceptable moral conduct. Our behavior should be well displayed to ensure a good reputation of the organization enhanced. Customers need to have trust with the organization and services offered. Therefore, taking bribes will portray the organization as been unethical and untrustworthy. We were therefore, advised to practice acceptable moral behavior all the time, anyone found behaving unethically would be punished severely. Personally, I display my ethical behavior without announcing it. I let people judge my behavior. I apply my ethical principles in my life to define the kind of person I am. In life people, display different kind of behavior based on the environment raised. The ten commandments of the bible assist in identifying the right and the wrong behavior of a person. In addition, the judicial system of the society is also responsible for shaping up a person. Therefore, when a wrong committed the judicial system is responsible for punishing the person. The society in which one is brought up defines the kind of behavior of the person. The society is responsible for regulating the kind of behavior of the person. Every organization has a right to develop recommendable ethical behavior in order to ensure success achieved. Employees advised to practice recommendable ethical behavior all the time. In addition, ethical behavior assist in decision-making, with good morals and behavior right decisions can be made in the organization (Trevino & Nelson, 2007). An organization that runs its activities without proper conduct is filled with employees’ misunderstandings, and the goals of the organizations are not achievable. Establishing proper ethical conduct in an organization assist in ensuring employees are responsible for their behavior. Therefore, employees are advised to behave accordingly, and to practice acceptable ethical behavior. An organization based on ethical conduct is likely to succeed and gain trust among its customers. It is therefore, advisable, to ensure new employees in an organization are presented with organizational ethical rules and conduct. This will assist in developing acceptable ethical conduct. Ethical behavior is responsible for defining the behavior of a person. In order, for one to be a productive citizen ethical conduct must be practiced. Ethics is particularly significant in a person’s life and should be practiced when a person is of tender age. This will nurture the person to be morally upright and acceptable to the society. Personal ethical developments have been the pillar of my life. I have developed acceptable ethical behavior, and now I am morally upright. My decision-making has been enhanced as a result, and I avoid making mistakes at all cost. Just as a person’s requires guidelines to have acceptable moral conduct, organizations also need to develop guidelines that promote ethical conduct. I have worked in organizations that are ethically operated, and the success of the organizations were massive. References Josephson Institute (2009). Six Pillars of Character.
