Topic: Obesity in Kuwait Literature review Excess fats and calories in the human body result in a serious health condition known as obesity. When a human being is attacked by obesity, there is an occurrence of the slow pace of burning glucose in the body as the problem takes its root. There is a significant body weight increase and size when excess fats are accumulated in a human being’s body. The government of Kuwait is making an effort in order to deal with the issue of obesity since many people in that country have suffered the health issue. It has put in place various measures so as to tackle the problem of health among the affected individual victims. It has hugely educated the public on the importance of eating habits credibility. In regard to making efforts to increase awareness about obesity, several organizations have been developed in the country. These organizations have trained and sensitized people on how to lead lifestyles which are healthy. Kuwait has been ranked second in obesity just behind United States of America. This is according to a recent study by the Imperial College London, Harvard University together with the World Health Organization. Various reasons for obesity problems in Kuwait have been brought about. Many people in Kuwait do not perform physical workouts and they eat junk foods which contain excess fats and calories. A relationship between income and obesity They have been able to spend any amount of money for tasty foods since they earn high incomes. Therefore this gives out a direct relationship with the problems of obesity in Kuwait. The higher the income, leads to the higher chances of being infected by obesity. This is the situation in Kuwait. Energy intake among the Kuwaitis is extremely more than what is actually required for a person according to Zaghloul’s study. This has been seen to be very much higher than the estimated requirements of energy for almost half of Kuwait children and one-third of adults. There has been an estimation of energy requirements that is exceeded by 78% -100% of the recommendations for protein and carbohydrates in respect to Kuwait situation. Majority of the energy drinks and foods contain excessive fat and sugar content which in turn bring about a problem of obesity in a human being’s body. People, who earn high incomes in Kuwait, buy these foods and drinks items which are expensive and contain excess fats and calories. Among Kuwaitis, high income earners have been infected by obesity. A relationship between globalization and obesity Globalization has also led to an increase of obesity cases among the Kuwaitis. This is simply because, many people’s life styles change globally due to globalization as it seen in Kuwait. Easier access of fast food which is found in food outlets globally has been examined through globalization. These fast foods contain excess calories and fats which in turn cause obesity. Obesity has enhanced since food companies such as KFC, Burger King and McDonalds have been established. They have developed food outlets in any country such as Kuwait thus posing a threat among many people through obesity infection. Regarding globalization, many restaurants which sell fast food containing excess fats and calories have been established by fast food companies. In respect to this experience, many people in Kuwait have been affected by the problem of obesity. Obesity in Kuwait has been caused by high income of the people and globalization in conclusion. It was proved that by the year 2009, the number of the citizens who had obesity had increased. This was also familiar to the females than the males in the country because of the lack of exercise. In my research I am going to use an example of 2, 999 adults in Kuwait. The number of the people who were proved to be overweight had a percentage of 52 percent. 42 percent of the people were also discovered to be having obesity and 6 percent were found unaffected. It is also proved that the number of the people being affected always increased according to their ages. The more the age one had, the more the number of the obese culprits increased. There is also enough information explaining that there were only few people who had no obese and a large number proved to be overweight. Below is the graph explaining how obese has affected Kuwait. With the income factor, the higher amount of income of the people from Kuwait, the lower the obesity as compared to the non employed people. It is also true that the number of the obesity increases with the number of children in a family. As the number increases, the obese culprits also increase because of the poverty cases that exist in the country. With the same data corresponding in the same year (2009), data was analyzed for the family houses in regard to the income levels and below are the results. Unemployed families proved to have the highest amount of obese levels while the management families had a low amount of the obese levels. This proves that income dictates the levels of obesity in a human being particularly in Kuwait. With the results of globalization, the adults have been affected greatly depending on the type of food people take. Obesity has really affected the world, more so Kuwait and this is becoming a threat to the country. As globalization is attaching the country, a lot of food imports are brought to the country including the genetically engineered foods which increase the rate of obesity in the country. With the global research, it has been proved that the over 500 million adults in the world have been affected heavily by the disease. This can be termed as having a body mass index of 30 and above. Globalization and obesity is a pattern that is brought up by the nutrition transition that leads to the existence of the chronic diseases that lead to the high levels of obesity. A number of adults can be affected because they are affected by the buying of the fast foods that are sold at canteens and meal shops. With the taking of the fast foods that have been brought into the country, one’s nutrition is affected and as a result one is discovered to be obese. With the genetically modified food, there are a lot of chemicals and substances that affect human beings and as a result one develops overweight problems leading to obesity. Below is a chart showing the number of obese victims affected in Kuwait in the year 2009 with the kind of food they take. Conclusion It is proved that the higher the number of the income one earns, it leads to the possibility of the victim to be affected. The age of the affected people will vary whereby the older ones are heavily affected. With globalization, the foods that are imported to the country also increase the rate of obese infection.
