The company is based in Abu Dhabi and owns several media outlets comprising of television channels and radio stations across the United Arab Emirates. Among the managerial functions of the media company include leading, controlling, organizing and planning (Weihrich & Koontz, 2006). These roles define the overall roles of the company’s executives in promoting the objectives of the organization through the established processes and business operations. As a result, the company is diversified with regard to service provision though its core business is media and entertainment. The functions of management of the company reflect its diversified nature in the sense that the managers of the firm play a wide range of duties in overseeing the vast operations of the company. For Abu Dhabi Media Corporation, the managerial roles of its executives describe the course of management that incorporates several business functions like marketing, finance and accounting. Therefore, roles provide constructive methods of categorizing data regarding management along with the most primary managerial processes of the corporation since its incorporation in June 2007. Every business organization has goals and objectives that govern its existence and operation in the business sphere. Accordingly, each organization endeavors to achieve some purposes that are predetermined and practiced through the entire course of its existence. In order for a company to succeed in its endeavors, its needs people as employees through which the company performs its processes. However, since people need direction the aspect of leadership and management is of core importance. Managers of an organization represent the people who administer the achievement of the organization’s objectives. Managerial functions provide a template upon which the managers of the respective company base their decisions, actions and operations. The managerial roles of Abu Dhabi Media Corporation define the frontiers of operation and operations that govern the roles of the company’s management. Abu Dhabi Media is a media corporation based in Abu Dhabi and owns a number of media houses in the UAE including TV stations, newspapers, Printing Pres and radio channels like Abu Dhabi Television, Holy Quran Radio, Al Ittihad newspaper and Image Nation (Books LLC, 2010). The organization was incorporated in 2007 as a corporation fully owned by the government. The legislation was enacted to lead to the growth of a multifaceted media firm in the Emirates. Among the objectives of forming the organization was to establish a cultural hub in the Middle East, as well as concentrate attention on Abu Dhabi as the commanding zone of the Emirates. Therefore, the crown prince of the Emirates founded five-member board of directors which comprised of chairman, deputy and three other members. The board was the supreme decision making organ of the comprehensive corporation that is responsible for the expansion of the vision and objectives of the organization and provide leadership. The corporation’s first assignment was the formation of the initial newspaper in English in Abu Dhabi, in mid 2007. As the company expanded, it established a number of TV stations along with radio channels that are under different management. Each subsidiary of the holding company is managed by an executive director under whom there are several managers who execute the decisions and vision of the company through their roles. Currently, the following functions of manager are incorporated in the normal functioning of the media company; staffing, organizing, leading, controlling, planning and directing. The roles, which illustrate managerial task when combined, comprise the process of management. This procedure is evaluated into crucial roles of management namely; controlling, leading, staffing, organizing and directing. Organizing, controlling and planning refer to the non-human parameters commonly described as mechanics of administration while the direction along with staffing mainly regard the human parameters, which are referred to as factors of management. Conceptually, the roles are recorded in progression though practically they are intertwined as a broad arrangement. Owing to the fact that the roles of management are not similar in significance, the time allotted to each function by the executives varies in accordance to their respective levels in the organization (Aris & Bughin, 2009). Those functions that are deemed important are allotted more time and those of little significance are given short concentration of time. Abu Dhabi Media lays a lot of emphasis on planning as an imperative function of management. Essentially, planning denotes the media corporation foremost role of management in the sense that each process requires adequate planning for it to be successful. This underscores the significance of planning as an overall role of business executives of the UAE Company. The company’s executives are required to anticipate prospect, difficulties and terms when selecting from the available alternatives the course of action to be taken by the company (DuBrin, 2011). The media corporations planning function comprises of the following activities; forecasting, scheduling, budgeting, programming, creating objectives and constructing policies. The role of organizing describes the management activity of describing and assembling processes developing authority liaisons amongst them. The media organization regularly identifies obligations in its management tasks and demarcates them into categories for implementation. Such a process simplifies the execution of these tasks making them convenient for application. Once the tasks have been developed and combined into sections, authority is granted to executives to enable them carry out the operations. Furthermore, the process of organizing involves the development of enabling environments by managers to facilitate the collaboration of operations involved in executing the operations. The management of Abu Dhabi Media involves the staffing function, which constitutes the course of endowing the organization with qualified and reliable personnel (Leonard, 2012). Staffing plays a monumental role in the media company because the quality of its services is directly related to the nature of workforce of the firm. Hence, through staffing the management function ensures that only suitable people are enrolled into the company and that proper orientation, induction and training is done to improve the quality of personnel. People management is a crucial parameter in the administration of the media corporation, and this is accomplished at the management level through the task of directing. Hence, the vast corporation administers people through venues of motivation communication, coordination and suitable leadership. Directing is significant because it ensures that the people in the organization are linked together into a mutual entity with well established structures of leadership, communication and coordination. Thus, a function ensures the smooth operation of events, activities and operations of the organization. Directing offers an opportunity for the company to guarantee order in the vast operations, which could fail without proper coordination. Controlling is an imperative function of Abu Dhabi Media management, which facilitates the executives to make certain that the accomplishments of the corporation are in line with the developed projection (Sennewald, 2003). Controlling forms the core process of aligning success to objectives through the course of customizing the processes of the organization to realize the exact objectives as laid down. To guarantee the achievement of the goals, controlling constitutes the development of performance standard through which every activity and the outcome is measured against the plan. Secondly, controlling involves performance on the foundation of accounts and records on the state of the procedures through which every stage of operation is evaluated against the projection. Similarly, corrective action is often set to ensure that the deviation from the projection is annulled, and possible remedial measures incepted to lead to the desired outcome. In conclusion, Abu Dhabi Media Company has distinct managerial roles for its management team that constitutes the entire function of administration of the media organization. Through the established functions, the organization succeeds in developing and executing its programs in the endeavor to achieve its goals.
