PERSONAL MENT For Fordham (MS in Global Finance (MSGF) - designed for who want to enhance their knowledge of global finance. Prepares students to understand the challenges of managing multinational companies operating in a complex and globally interconnected financial marketplace. No previous business experience is required) Essay I: Describe your professional progress to this point as well as your short-term and long-term career goals. How do you expect Fordham Business to benefit your future career needs? (750-1000 words) I aim to get admission in the MS in Global Finance (MSGF) program to gain a complete understanding of all issues related to the field of finance. Finance has always been my area of interest, and I think this is the right time for me to go further in this field as I have not only completed my graduation but I am also determined to establish my professional career as a skilled financial expert and accountant. My family’s professional background has shaped my overall personality, as well as my interest in finance and accounting. Both of my parents have been engaged in business and finance related work since my childhood. Therefore, I have had more exposure to the world of business than many of my peers. When I was little, I often heard from my parents some interesting terms related to business, such as import and export, finance, FDI, and so on. It kindled my curiosity and made me want to learn more, which in turn helped me shape my thoughts about my professional career, so I aimed to become a skilled accountant. Moving to New York City, the world center of business and finance, gave me a new perspective. I came to NYC in 2008, at a time when the world was battling the most severe financial and economic crisis. I asked myself, “Why does finance have such a strong power on economy? How is everything interconnected?” In search of answers and trying to make the best use of the many opportunities the city offers, I interned at the global headquarters of Ernst & Young during my high school summer vacation of 2010. The few weeks at its financial service department not only helped me understand the way different business verticals are connected, but also reaffirmed my determination to study finance and business management in college. With great interest in business and finance and with excellent academic performance, I was admitted to NYU Stern School of Business in 2011, majoring in both Finance and General Accounting. Through my four-year education at NYU Stern School of Business and internships at different positions at a number of financial institutions based both in China and the U.S., I obtained a wide range of experience and thorough knowledge of the functions and operations of financial services. I conducted research and delivered presentations on finance related topics, particularly on the U.S. banking industry. Additionally, I perform well not only independently but also as a team member. I communicate effectively and maintain friendly relationships with my peers and managers at all the financial firms where I have interned. By attending some events hosted by China General Chamber of Commerce – U.S.A., I have met and kept connections with many executive directors from Chinese investment companies in the U.S. as well as their parent corporations in China. Through my internship and networking with financial professionals, I realized that the world of business is a knowledge treasure, and what I do not know about it remains far too much. Economic globalization and the global outreach of businesses demand talents with both diversified cultural backgrounds and solid academic training for multinationals. I grew up in Beijing and moved to New York City for high school education at the age of fifteen, which helped me to adapt to the culture of the United States at a young age. Now, in order to catch up with the development of the business and financial world personally and professionally, and to further enhance my undergraduate academics, I aim to continue my graduate education in finance. For this, I have selected Fordham Graduate School of Business because it offers students the skills and experience that are needed to become professionals, and prepares students to further understand the challenges of managing multinational companies operating in a complex and globally interconnected financial marketplace. This is exactly the kind of graduate education that I am looking for. I have an excellent educational background, which makes me a suitable candidate to be enrolled at this university. My grades in the subjects related to business finance at the graduation level also depict my interest in the field of finance and accounting. My short-term plan is to get admission in the MS in Global Finance (MSGF) program to acquire new knowledge and refine my existing financial and accounting skills and expertise. My long-term goal is to work as a skilled accountant with a reputed multinational organization where I can use my accounting skills and knowledge to achieve success. I truly believe in the importance of a strong economy. I think that the main difference between an underdeveloped country and a developed country is the strength of economy. I want to take part in the industrial development and economic progress of my country, and that is only possible if I get the opportunity to study accounting and finance in one of the most prestigious business schools of the United States. Fordham Graduate School of Business is known for its brilliant faculty not only in the field of accounting and finance but also in all other subjects offered by the university. I want to complete my master’s degree under the guidance of highly qualified and experienced faculty of the university. I have collected information about different business institutes and universities, and I have concluded that Fordham Graduate School of Business would be the most suitable place for me as it would not only help me fulfill my personal and professional goals but also would aid me in serving my nation as a professional. I am very much impressed with what Fordham can offer, and I firmly believe that the graduate education in Fordham University can provide me with the opportunities to explore economics and can help me start my professional career in business finance.
