Extract of sample "Discussion of an Effective Leadership"

The six styles of leadership have a quantitative effect on every climatic aspect. In a nutshell, coercive leaders tend to demand immediate compliance, authoritative leaders mobilize the workers towards the company’s objective, affiliative leaders create that harmony and come up with an emotional bond, democratic leaders come up with consensus through the art of participation, pacesetting leaders set a high level of performance, while the coaching leaders develop the employee for the future. Therefore, from the article, the more styles a leader implements the better the performance of an organization; leading with more than four leadership styles have the best business and climate performance.

Some of the six effective leadership styles that should be employed by leaders at the place of work include; authoritative leaders who can mobilize individuals towards a vision, coercive leaders who demand immediate compliance, democratic leaders who build consensus, affiliative leaders who create harmony and emotional bonds, coaching leaders who develop people for the future as well as Pacesetting leaders who expect self-direction and excellence. The listed six leadership styles are often driven by emotional intelligence capabilities such as social skills, social awareness, self-management, and self-awareness (Goleman, 2). Executives who failed to utilize emotional intelligence registered less performance and were rarely rated as outstanding. Effective leadership and emotional intelligence are intertwined. Leaders tend to influence the organizational environment in various ways. Six factors affect the working environment of the organization. The factors include; a sense of responsibility, the level of standards, the clarity of the people, the level of commitment, the aptness of rewards, and flexibility. For effective leadership, leaders have to influence the various aspects of the environment (Goleman, 3).

Leaders who utilize more than one leadership style that impacts positively the environment are will achieve better financial results than those who don’t. An effective leader should have a positive influence on the employees and their environment. Leaders who have mastered more than four leadership styles especially democratic, coaching, affiliative and authoritative styles post the best performance and the best climate. There exist stories of highly skilled and intelligent executives that were promoted to leadership positions but failed to provide better results. It is indeed true that effective leadership requires individuals who utilize various leadership styles required in planning, organization, budgeting, coordination, and motivation of the employees and business environment (Goleman, 4).

I believe that discussing the various leadership styles and their relationship to emotional intelligence is a valid business discussion. Although incorporating the different leadership styles in the running of the business may seem tough at the start, executives who have been known to utilize more than one leadership style have posted better results. Using leadership styles together with the many emotional intelligence components such as social skills, social awareness, self-management, and self-awareness are both beneficial in the management of the employees as well as the business environment (Goleman, 6).

I believe it is time for leaders to use more than one leadership style to foster changes and promote the performance of the employees. Utilization of various emotional intelligence competencies together with the different leadership styles will make it possible for executives to achieve results by working closely with the employees. The leadership styles utilized by the executives should aim at guiding the subordinates toward achieving the visions of the organization (Goleman, 5).
