Business Future Business Future As China’s moderately developed western region, Chongqing separated from the Sichuan province and formed a municipality in its right. The aim was to hasten its development and improve on its human capital, specifically the skilled labor attraction. The area has a reputation for skilled labor attraction. The municipality has a populace of 32.8 million, comprising 23.3 million farmers. 8.4 million Farmers are the migrant workers, 3.9 million staying and working in the urban zones of Chongqing (Liu, Zhang & Zhang 2010, pp.69).The education level is comparatively high in the region.

Chongqing has an average of 67 institutions of higher education with about 600,000 undergraduates entering them yearly. The region has 236 vocational schools housing half a million of the students. Therefore, this makes the availability of local skilled labor and the R&D operations cost effective. The region has a lower production cost therefore it makes the price index moderate unlike in Eastern China and the Western neighbor Chengdu (Liu, Zhang & Zhang, 2010, pp.72). Compared to Chinese cities like Shanghai and Beijing, Chongqing, strategically positioned, one can relatively move with ease from the metropolitan part of the city.

Just next to the city center, the Southern Mountains provide plenty of outdoor opportunities and peace. At the outskirt, the rice paddies and historic villages are easily visible. The area is safe from gangsters and corruption. In 2009, the authorities in the city under the municipal Communist Party secretary by the name of Bo Xilai took a large-scale crackdown by arresting 4,893-suspected thugs, corrupt and the outlaws’ cadres. The arrests saw an end to the period of gangsters (Thompson, Lane & Bedford, 2010, pp. 98). The air quality is a most significant health concern in China.

The region enjoys moderately good air quality compared to other areas in China. Its beautiful Riverside has been a key source of attraction. However, it experiences moderate instances of air pollution from the production industries around the city. The cultural life has the entire infrastructure needed. For example, the region has the traditional museums, the contemporary art, modern opera building, art schools, live houses, and the small theaters where the people watch Sichuan opera. English entertainment is quite limited (Liu, Zhang & Zhang, 2010, pp.88). The healthcare in the region is not as advanced like those in the cities of Shanghai and Chengdu.

The global hospital clinic preferred among the expats for the necessary treatments. Language barrier may be a problem for the foreign labor in their communication with the local hospital staff. The typical life expectancy in the region is currently 76.7 years, three years higher than the national average (Thompson, Lane & Bedford, 2010, pp.117). The region is rapidly urbanizing, for example, new constructions have added up to roughly 137,000 square meters daily of the usable floor space. The added space is for commercial, factory, and residential purposes.

The area is also undergoing an influx of human capital from the 1,300 individuals moving into the municipal daily, contributing to approximately 100 million yuan to the local economy (Du, 2013, pp. 6). Unlike eastern China, Chongqing industries are more diversified attracting labor that is more skilled. The factories producing the local oriented consumer goods like processed food, chemicals, machinery, cars, electronics, and textiles are typical. The region is China’s third leading center for the production of motor vehicle and the biggest motorcycle producer.

In the year 2007, the region had yearly output capacity of producing 8.6 million motorcycle and one million cars (Liu, Zhang & Zhang, 2010, pp.90). Agriculture remains significant in the area. Rice and fruits, exclusively oranges are the main produce. The region has fertile soils that produce quality food for the residence. Moreover, the area has clean water for consumption and crop production. The natural resources are also common with the vast deposits of natural gas, coal and more other minerals such as manganese and strontium.

These economic activities attract labor around the region and globally as well (Harper 2007, pp. 130). The city also invests in the dense infrastructural network to attract foreign human capital and investments. The network of railways and roads linking Chongqing to rest of China upgraded and expanded to reduce the logistical costs. The Three Gorges Dam also allows the oceangoing ships to reach the Chongqing’s Yangtze Waterway port. Such infrastructural advancements are of significance to the area.

They open up the area for the arrival of several foreign direct investors and skilled labor in the industries, ranging from car manufacturing to finance and retailing (Harper 2007, pp. 132).List of ReferencesLiu, G.
