In 1994, the Dome hosted the famous Super Bowl XXVIII event and in 1996 several Olympic events were held. Moreover, in the year 2000, the Super Bowl XXXIV was held at the Dome and each year, the Chick Fil-A Bowl, the Bank of America Atlanta Football Classic and the SEC Football Championships and similar events are hosted. Furthermore, it is the site where NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four was held in the years 2002 and 2007. In addition, through out the year several sports events such as tennis matches, basket ball games, track and field events and Supercross events are held at the Georgia Dome. The Dome is considered as the home of the famous Atlanta Falcons. The Dome is specially designed to be capable of hosting non sports events as well, such as annual trade shows and religious events. For tourists and sports lovers, ranges of behind the scene tours are available at nominal prices. Such tours are available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The stadium is oval shaped and this ensures a good view from each of its71, 500 seats. Parking is quite expensive and limited so it is a good idea to prefer walking to the Dome instead. During the construction of the Dome, 8,300 tons of reinforced steel was used and approximately 110,000 cubic yards of concrete was used. The Dome occupies a total area of 8.9 acres and has seven levels each of which is of 1.6 million square feet. The height of the Georgia Dome is 290 feet while the structure has a length of 746 feet and a width of 607 feet. The Dome’s roof has been constructed using 130 fiberglass panels coated with Teflon. The roof of the structure has a low self weight and is capable of withstanding a variety of adverse environmental conditions. The roof is supported by cables which have a total length of 11.1 miles and the whole structure is as tall as a 27 storey building. Moreover, the structure’s vast floor has a total area of 102,150 square feet, making it the largest combined sports and entertainment facility in the United States of America. The floor is so large that it can easily fit a pair of C-5 military planes. (Georgia Dome. Atlanta 1992). In the year 2003, the owner of the Atlanta falcons funded the installation of Field Turf artificial surface system and LED ribbon boards were also installed. The Dome has 8 super suites and 164 executive suites. In addition, there are a total of 4,600 club seas and a penthouse suite. The Dome has a number of rest houses which are available at all times for guests with disabilities. The Dome is flooded with lighting by a total of 798 lighting fixtures and more than 660 television sets have been installed at various locations throughout the stadium. (Gramercy Books, 2006).
