Fashion Introduction The New York fashion week has been one of the most important, popular and grand events that takes place in the fashion scenario. With the intension of stealing away the limelight from the fashion shows at Paris and France in general, the New York fashion week took a bold initiative in beginning the New York fashion shows. The event that began in 1943 has seen transformations in the clothing lines, fashion and most importantly the manner of the fashion shows, adjusting to the needs of present times. In fall 2009, designers had to cope with the recession and the fall in the market, it became necessary to deal with the economic aspects of the show as well. Designers came up with events and conferences that were economical and aimed at reaching the people in the crucial time of the economic drop, giving them options that would help save. Further, they took to options that would help them cut out on runway costs or other organizing costs. Some of the events that have been part of the New York fashion week aimed at cutting down on costs, economizing and bringing to their audience what they are sure to receive with delight, technology. The costs of the show that would usually go up to $750,000 had been cut down and designers have gone economy friendly, however, not forsaking the striking patters, designs and beauty of the clothing range. New York fashion week: conference of birds collection In the current fashion scenario, simple and breathtaking are the two words often complimenting each other in collections that have been popular and sought after. The collections that are more wearable and simple in design still contain the glam and beauty that a more expensive and complicated array of fashion clothing would hold. The birds collection by Andrew Holdes turned out to be a combination of just this. The colors were solid, the designs simple, angled and interesting. The collection included clothes with modern silhouettes that combined classic British tailoring with enduring American work wear, the most sought after style in the current season. Green jackets were cropped, corduroy vests with shawl collars paired with huge scarves as leather trimming and epaulets were added to other pieces. (popculturepost.com). the range of shorts, hood jackets and shirts are rather interesting as they have an out of the ordinary look, adding to the attractiveness that the clothing line holds. It is a collection that focuses on casual wear, very stylish, sleek and totally wearable. The designers of this category seem to have understood that fashion trends are better when they are more casual, wearable and comfortable. Philip Lim event Fashionistas have begun to feel the heat of the current economical situation. Designers such as Philip Lim have learnt to team up high end fashion with affordability. While there have been several designers who have faced the unsatisfactory results of the catwalk fashion shows, Lim has taken advantage of the situation and worked it to his favor. The clothing range by Lim turned out to be stunning with a lot of asymmetric clothing styles with use of a lot of sequins. His clothing line followed the style of cool, languid and edgy blend of winter shorts, asymmetric ponchos and dresses, and one very cool take on the twinset in the form of an airy blue mohair dress with matching cardigan. (usatoday.com). Further, there was a breathtaking design that came in a tweed gold lame jacket and pants combo. The clothing was simply beautiful and further, wearable, comfy and very much into the punk and disco age. Lim stated that he was aiming to recreate the fashion that rocked the scene between disco and punk ages. Lim also stated that being the kind that always has seen the affordability of his lines; he feels that the current situation is to his favor more than ever. “Ive always had a relationship with clothing and how they make me feel. Its more important than ever -- I never foresaw the kind of economy we would be in, but its more relevant than ever now, this idea of value," he said. All of the interesting clothes and the affordability make the event an interesting part of the New York fashion week. Vivienne Tam show: HP mini notebook It is an era of technology and everyone is interested in the dominant place that technology has taken right beside fashion. Everybody wants to get their share of fashion and technology, getting the right blend that would make a statement. Designers have seen the importance that people have begun giving technology. The new clothing lines have introduced accessories that are more than just fashion statements or trends, but rather are handy technologies that would supplement the necessity of technology in hand. The new look in digital clutch chic marries two cultures – fashion and technology – to reflect a transformative spirit and sophisticated lifestyle. It fuses high fashion, small form factor and innovative function to take the personal computer from a necessity to a lifestyle statement for modern-day women on the go. (hp.com). The mini book digital clutches are perhaps the most interesting line of accessories. The economical impact it has had on its audience is really quite interesting because it would be counted as an investment in more than just accessories or fashion clothing, its an investment in a piece of technology, and that, is a supported idea on any given day. In an economy that is facing hard times, you can either lower costs or give the buyers an additional reason to buy it, justifying the investment. This is the take that Tam took by signing a tie up with HP. The advantages that this chic technology has over other fashion trends are quite interesting and everyone wants to get their hands on this rather attractive piece of technology, the digital clutches. It is perhaps the best way to accessorize this season and Tam has made a mark with this idea. New York fashion week: Vera Wang and Betty Johnson mannequin shows and online fashion shows Top designers like Vera Wang and Betty Johnson have resorted to face the economical crisis with events that would cut down on all the frills, lights and extravagance, giving importance to the clothing lines and displaying them in mannequin shows. Ms Wang is best known for her wedding dresses designed for dozens of famous brides, including Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham, Uma Thurman and Sharon Stone. (telegraph.co.uk). The clothing line had large, interesting drapes and cuts, folding into delicious patters and flowing fabric. Some of the designs that were displayed were rather interesting with a blend of the contemporary style and delicate material, intricate work and sequin. The total costs of having a runway show would sum up to nearly $750,000, inclusive of model costs, organizing and setting. Wang decided to showcase the clothing collection using mannequins, an economical and creative way of displaying the collection. Although it might be criticized to be less effective, there has not been much of a difference. After all, it is the clothing that matters, it matters if it is attractive, eye catching and breathtaking, which it is. Others who have been involved in the fashion show business have now begun to understand that it is necessary to come up with more cost effective ways to deal with the current scenario in the fashion world as well as the general economy. They have decided to launch fashion shows that can be internet based, cutting down on the costs greatly. Shoppers have come to shun luxury brands because of the economic crisis and this cost might be offset considerably in the showcasing methods. While Betty Johnson and Vera Wang have taken to mannequin shows, others have been trying to come up with ways of retaining the buyers. Mara Hoffman, Sergio Davila and Nicholas K clothing lines Designers like Hoffman, Davila and Nicholas had a show that was combined. This show had three different lines combined in one show, which would mean that they have cut down on model costs, runway costs and could have shared the expenses. The line had an interesting collection as it had different ideas, different designs and patters put together. There was more to the clothing range than expected. There were frills, laces and straight simple angled dresses that were more than the ordinary. Nicholas K brought a tough 90s vibe to the runway with loose fitting plaid and leather jackets. (glam.com). There were more attitudes to the collection than other styles. During Sergio Davila’s show, the boys were ultra femmed out in blousy tops, neckerchiefs and sparkly wool blazers—very Chuck Bass. Mara Hoffman, however, stole the show. The patterns that were showcased were simply beautiful and contained the sillottues that accompanied a dreamy forest feel and most of the designs were those obviously comfy designs that you could live in. these designs were like art and the designers came up with an interesting way to grab audience at once, reaching out to buyers while also cutting down on costs and economizing as much as they can. Conclusion Each of the categories of the New York fashion week had something different this season than they did a few seasons ago. It has become important that these designers give importance to the economic condition that buyers are subject to. While some categories of designers have taken to saving on the runway costs, some others have come up with more affordable tags for their clothing lines. The cost effective methods that have been incorporated into the fashion industry certainly does help with the current situation, giving buyers a lift, helping them cope with the desire for luxury fashion and the economical situation. All clothing lines have proved to be equally good, coming up with new ideas and designs, also bearing in mind that it might not be simple to get buyers to be over enthusiastic about the show. The effectiveness of these shows can be classified and analyzed based on the approach that they took to handling the economical status. We can see that runway shows are always more effective and influential than are display shows and online shows. The clothing lines that have modified its designs to simplistic, wearable, classic and affordable are certainly the winners of the game. There is more to it than just lower prices, it is the effort of the designer that goes into making all the best designs, fabrics and cuts go into the right slot. References popculturepost.com.
