Claire McCardell’s style was the complete opposite of her teacher's. She is known to be the brain behind the American look. Her designs are quite casual and are intended to be affordable to the wider society.

McCardellisms designs were mainly casual. Women's sportswear has adopted a lot of traits from her work. She mostly used natural fiber raw materials in making her dresses (Lee, 23). She matched the Zeitgeist of her time in her endeavor to conform to the events. Her dresses could be worn at any time irrespective of the season. Her clothing could fit for an evening dinner or be used on a beach. The revealing sundresses mainly became popular for such beach and dinner occasions. McCardellisms' designs had a casual mode and this made them fit for a variety of occasions. She designed clothes from her free mind flow. She observed nature and came out with designs that were needed. Her designs have influenced the way Americans put on to date. The casual and sporty nature of American dressing has its origin in the designs created by Claire McCardell.
