An Elite Art Form vs. Precision Engineering: The Contemporary Bespoke Debate

This dissertation discusses the word Bespoke, that may be defined as ordering items to be made with certain specific specifications. Historically the word has been associated mainly with clothing or garment making especially suits that are made for specific individuals with the clients’ own specifications. Originally, bespoke has been associated with purely hand made garments with measurements provided by clients. Development of bespoke techniques led to the advent of new, effective, and technological enabled tailoring techniques in the fashion and garment industries. The researcher then concluds that the bespoke have developed immensely regardless of the challenges that have been experienced in its terminology and application. The application of the 3D body scanning garment industries have deployed varied and effective concepts and aspects computer applications in the cloth industry. The 3D body scanning technology and CAD systems and their related software applications have become fundamental technological requirement in the garment industry. The advancement of bespoke to E-tailoring has led to greater development, efficiency, and tailoring effectiveness as well as easier means of taking measurement in the garment industries and fashion retail industries. ...
