Cristina has continued to tolerate her physiotherapy programmes, types of equipment, and aids to improve and maintain her movement level. Although she finds this tiring, she has generally increased the time she now spends in her standing frame from the previous 20 minutes. She is now able to stay in her stander for up to 45 minutes without showing discomfort. She has come to accept her stretching sessions before going into stander much more willingly this year. She allows class staff to complete her stretches before wearing leg gaiters and going into her standing frame.

Although she finds the whole process uncomfortable, she feels secure and remarkably cooperative when reassured by staff members. She has also improved on wearing her AFOs. She is gradually improving from tolerating wearing them for only 45 minutes as she previously did. She is now able to come to school and leave while still wearing them. Occasionally, she would alert adults of being is uncomfortable wearing them, especially after being in her stander for a long time since it adds extra pressure to her leg.

Cristina has had an opportunity to swim this year and has accepted being held in the water by a familiar member of staff. She has moved through the water in different directions and at different speeds flexing her arms and legs a little with support. Cristina has shown some awareness of cause and effect regarding a switch. She has shown some ability to press switches with hand over hand support and actively listen or show anticipation for the effects of her actions. Due to Cristina limited range of movement, it is still difficult for her to press the switch independently.

However, she has shown some ability to activate the switch position under her hand more intently when involved in the self-occupation task. She particularly likes to activate short video clips of familiar stories or songs, and with appropriate support, she presses a switch to play them. She finds results very rewarding and smiles and sometimes vocalises the sound of music. Technology has also featured within Cristina’s sensory story sessions.
