Growing up in the Henan province of China, I was often exposed to the rudimentary to advanced math and science techniques. The schools that I attended concentrated on the science and math subjects and introduction to various fields relating to the same.By the time I reached Middle School, I had developed a keen interest in Physics and its relation to everday life. Physics and Math were the two subjects that I excelled at the most during this educational period. My exceptional ability in solving Physics problems led to my recieving a second-class reward during the Olympic Physics Competition that was held in Henan. Such were my skills and abilities in the field of Physics that when I first came to America to continue my college studies, I concentrated even more on the study of Physics. It was not long before I began to once again display my prowess in the field of Physics and Math at school. It was not uncommon for me to garner first place or full points in my Math and Physics classes. Due to my skills, I found myself being drafted into membership of the Asian Engineering Club. This was where my interest in the field of electrical engineering began to take root. My constant exposure to the fields of electronics and computers through the club experiments and school competitions further fueled my desire to learn more about this particular field of math. Some of me friends have told me that it is a long shot because acceptance is very competitive. This does not bother me at all. I believe in competition and I also believe in my ability to accomplish my goals through hard work, skill and determination. This, added to the support of my family, makes be feel as though I can be accepted and thrive at the University of California.
College life is colorful, and I made full use of all the opportunities to enrich myself. In my college time, I did not limit myself towards academic studies in my college. I participated in the Chinese Students Club and the Magic Club. This made me immersed in studies, and I had interactions with other schoolmates.
Like Elbert Hubbard once said: “Thoroughness characterizes all successful men. Genius is the art of taking infinite pains. All great achievement has been characterized by extreme care, infinite painstaking, even to the minutest detail.” I chose to apply similar qualities, mostly sparing nothing that qualifies as knowledge however, minute, in my quest to become great economist.
Majority of the Economics/Business graduates get selected in the campus interviews generally conducted in the last semester of the degree course and as such the student possesses confidence to face the final phase of his academic career, being assured of placement.
The success I have enjoyed in my previous education is a consequence of my dedication to improve my craft. As an honor student, I have valued the importance of consistent learning and the ever increasing urge to develop.
