It is a phenomenon where visual, auditory or sign symbols are used. It is written and oral form. They have grammar, rules and certain signs, which are used to express clearly and regularly. The human languages are known as natural language, artificial languages (between people of different nationalities or language groups), controlled languages (subsets of natural languages where grammars and dictionaries have been restricted), constructed languages (individual groups have constructed for practical, experimental, personal or ideological reasons), formal languages (programming languages and the mark up languages), and the programming languages (used to control the behavior of a machine mainly a computer specific tasks) Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia July 2007. . SIL: This site explains the work done with people of not so well known languages in a community to maintain and develop the written forms as well as their literature. All languages are developed in a way and are capable of expressing whatever a speaker wants to communicate. They show the same level of structural complexity. New forms are vital for new users. The technology for alphabet development requires linguistic research and literary theory to develop written forms so that the speaker can have reading skills and fluency. Now with the world becoming small and societies being exposed to other cultures and modern life many new technologies will be introduced. Many communities will borrow words from other languages and many words from there languages will become obsolete. Many would want to keep their language pure. There is a certain standard way of writing and spelling for technological use within a speech of the community. Sometimes a "language academy" is given the responsibility to make norms for language usage. This site SIL helps in language development in partnership with local community in maintaining their culture and the ways for their language development. Language development in a child is more than just learning to say " dada", "baba", or mama". They have to develop the ability to listen, understand and speak to others. This site explains the different stages in toddlers first years to the subsequent years. Language development involves good vision and auditory skills. . The technique involved in taking a more active role in the child's language development is by talking more often to the child about everyday activities like brushing teeth, drinking milk, etc. keeping eye contact and speaking clearly to a child with a comfortable distance. Stressing on syllables is important and listening to what the child says. If a child has problem in pronouncing some words instead of pointing mistakes repeat the words and sentences. Reading is another technique to improve language development in a child. Eventually it helps a child in writing as well. This site also explains the activities that can help language development in a child like singing songs, making faces, picture books, nursery rhymes, matching games etc.It also explains the importance of cognitive, social, and emotional development. . Language via the Internet: Language development is the task of preparing a language to serve as a tool of literacy and education. Any natural language is already a suitable tool for oral communication. The prophets of doom emerge every time a new technology influences language. It happened in the 15 the century when printing was introduced, then again when the telephone was introduced in 19 th century, and when broadcasting came in the 20 th century: and they gathered again when Internet writing broke several of and spelling, says Crystal. Internet is allowing us to explore once more. Crystall concludes that a surprisingly small number of new words have been spawned while texting, blogging and other forms have given radical opportunities to develop new stylistic rules. He believes that the new forms of interaction seen in the Internet are far more important than changes in vocabulary, grammar, and spelling. Finally, as the internet becomes more linguistically varied, it also extends a hand to minority languages and it speakers. It helps speakers of minority language to maintain virtual contact through email, chat and instant messaging environments. The recent technologies like email and text messaging will transform language in a way that certain words might become obsolete. Technological revolution impacts language in some significant way, to add color to our language. Language in India: This site explains the diversity of linguistic scene and a potential to develop the language industry to develop systems for MT, information retrieval, man machine interfaces, knowledge representation etc and developing KB systems for Indian languages. India is considered a linguistic area by language topologists where over a 1000 languages with well-defined grammars. India has 18 national languages of which Hindi is official and English is associate official language. Upward socio-economic mobility causes language death in India, when younger generations stop using their mother tongues. This has also become a political hotspot. India is a major IT provider and has largest number of languages. It can help in preserving language data of dying languages by creating fonts, building data warehouses, dialect mapping, multilingual resources, building uni/multi/bimodal natural language interfaces, building text to speech systems, online resources and search engines. A lot of national universities and some private enterprises in India like TCS and TIFR are significantly contributing in this field. Delayed speech or language development: This site helps in telling you the scenario of the children who are slow to speak. It tells you what " normal and what's not in speech and language development. The different stages are defined starting from birth to 3 years. Like if a baby who watches intently but doesn't respond to sound may be showing signs of hearing loss. Similarly a child at 3 years should be able to form 3 or more words into sentences. The causes of language delay may be caused due to oral impairments, ear infections, hearing impairments. Speech language pathologists can evaluate the language skills within the context of his or her total development. A child's genetic make up will in part determine intelligence and speech development, child's environment also plays a major role in communication. Treating problems early on is the best approach to help with speech and language delays. Language is entirely learned through exposure and experience.
