this was one of the projects of the department of education which is aimed at enhancing the primary school children's ability to read, write and communicate. The specific style of teaching the kids under this program varies depending upon the age and ability of the child. However, the main point of strategy is focus on ensuring that the child is given ample time to do several activities such as reading, spelling, grammar checking, writing, and speaking (Callery, 2005).
The children students are taught in a way of small group discussions and not on a one-to-one basis. However, there is always fifteen minutes allotted for independent reading and writing. The way of handling the national literacy hour is done following this table/format:
This paper hypothesized that since the national literacy hour has been implement primary school children have started to read a lot. This they do because their desire to read has increased and that the children themselves have found reading beneficial to their own social, mental and emotional development.
This result of this paper will provide ample information to the teachers and educational policy makers regarding the effective facilitation of the national literacy hour program. This will make them reevaluate the current scenario in their respective schools and see if they are still providing efficient and effective learning undertaking to the primary school students.
