The Coursework CASE STUDY: The University of Grantham Question No 2 The University of Grantham is going to establish a new online educational system. The university can use a variety of tools to develop this system. One of the major options is to develop the new web based system using the off-the-shelf applications. However, in some cases this would not be feasible or workable. The main reason is the fulfillment of the university needs and student’s requirements fulfillment cannot be obtained through the off-the-shelf development. In this scenario the custom development would be required. For this reason, we will hire a well recognized development team or software development firm that will develop the online system for the University of Grantham. This will offer the facility to effectively meet the requirements of students, teachers and management. In addition, this will also offer the better fulfillment of needs of the online communication, data transfer, security and privacy. Question No 3 The University of Grantham online system needs to be based on the number of groupware applications. In the development of these applications each development team needs to work on a specific area of the overall system development. In this scenario the inter-communication among all teams is really essential. However, at the time of the system merger, we can face some compatibility problems. These problems can emerge due to different development style, programming approach, and communication interface. Therefore, when these groupware applications are combined the problems regarding the combined operational compatibility could arise. Then the next main groupware application we will require is about the newsgroups and mailing list. This will facilitate the presentation of current events regarding the education. This will also provide the facility of distributing any current news to the students and teachers. Another groupware application that is required is about the video communication. This will offer the facility to share the video lectures at the online website for the students. Another groupware application we will require is chat system that will offer the facility of chat among different types of user at the groupware website. Question No 5 The groupware design is different from traditional user interface design because this system will be used by a huge number of people around the world and specifically for the educational purpose. In this scenario this needs to satisfy the needs of the all types of the user of the system who will have different intentions regarding the system usage. The groupware application needs to be developed according to the all type of needs those are related to the different type of users approaching the web. In addition, this system needs to be developed in a way that it offers the greater satisfaction to the all the types of user. The design of the University of Grantham online distant learning system needs to be different from the traditional user system because it will be used to facilitate a large number of students, teachers, and university management. In this scenario we need to establish the different times for the online communication. This communication will be established according to the overall group member time zone values. The system will incorporate the facility for managing the communication timings. In this way, the system will take the time zone of each group member and find out the most appropriate day light timing. This time will be based on the calculation of the daylight timings those are most appropriate for each type of user linked to system. In addition, this will also notify the every group member regarding the timing on which he/she can interact with the system. Furthermore, we can also offer a standard global time that offers all the global as well as local students a similar opportunity regarding the communication, interaction and data sharing. Question No- 8 A team can be defined as a small group of people with complimentary expertise who are dedicated to established goals, purpose, and method for which they hold themselves equally responsible (Prelude Consulting, 2008). In addition, the project team encompasses the full-time and part-time resources allocated to put effort on the deliverables of the project all of who will assist in accomplishing the project goals (Alexandrou, 2009). According to Harold Kerzner, the foundation of prosperous project management is project team and people working in that project. In addition, the successful accomplishment of project management is a sequence of high-quality procedures through prominence on people as well as their functioning associations: generally collaboration, communication, teamwork as well as conviction (Kerzner, 2009; Kerzner, 2006). The most significant task for University of Grantham project development is the building of the most excellent project team in the beginning of the project. In case of some conflicts among the project working teams at University of Grantham we need to consider and understand the variety of opinions concerned in conflicts. In case of University of Grantham online system we can also have lot of security threats. In this scenario, the basic need is to minimize them and offer a better security arrangement. Therefore, we need to establish a strong user login based structure. This structure will be capable to offer the user security as well as the management of the overall security of the University of Grantham groupware system.
