Final reflection for Bilingualism Course The issue of “Bilingualism” is of utmost significance not only for bilinguals but also in various other equally relevant fields such as politics, societies and even as well as communities. The people involved in imparting second language training to students as well as researchers must be aware of the relative significance and repercussions of bilingualism. Owing to its various benefits, it is imperative for researchers, academic scholars, as well as those involved in imparting second language training to students, to comprehend and appreciate the relevance and influence of bilingualism. Having Adequate knowledge of “Bilingualism” will help them to improve in the field of second language acquisition and offer necessary assistance and guidance regarding issues such as the need for a suitable learning environment and excellent effective materials for learners. I enrolled in this course “Bilingualism” thinking that with the sole purpose of it was only some additional adding some bonus credits that I should take to graduate to my graduation course. This thought, however, lasted for only one week, i.e. the first week of the semester. What I did not know was that how much the amount of knowledge I will was to gain from that class. Before Prior to enrolling in this course, I did not realize that had very little or no realization about the fact that bilingualism is one of the crucial topics that a second/foreign language teacher should must know about and the numerous benefits one can earn, in terms of career, by gaining and have a better understanding of the subject in order to do well in her/his career. This course has totally completely transformed my perception about bilingualism changed my view to Bilingualism. It has created I now have a newfound appreciation for the course and / or this subject, as well as extensive knowledge about bilingualism which will help me, in the future, to while dealing with classes that have comprising of monolingual, bilingual and multi-lingual learners. This class course has not only helped me develop as a teacher, but it has allowed me to become more knowledgeable and confident in teaching English as a second language. This class It has provided my me with various useful information through various activities such as class participation, writing journal, critical review, group discussion and Robyn`s presentation. One of the crucial parts most vital aspects of being a student is to participate in the class, ask questions and give share opinions. Participating in class helped me Increases increase my attentiveness and my ability to focus on the material being presented. As for me as a graduate student and an English Teacher, I feel that active participation had a direct effect on my level of pleasure in being in that particular learning environment. In order to participate in the class, I had to prepare in advanced my reading the assigned chapters and do others reading for different resources to gain a wider knowledge about the target topic. In order to engage in active class participation and discussions, I had to prepare in advance. I read not only the assigned chapters but also referred to other relevant material for widening my knowledge on the topics, being discussed in the class. Participating in class expended my knowledge by asking many questions about some different points. Such active participation and involvement in class discussions, has helped me in clarifying various doubts, by asking questions about various topics being discussed in class. One of the most useful things that we had done during the Bilingualism course is writing journals. Writing journals helped me to reflect and express my understanding about certain ideas. Furthermore, before writing a journal, I had to read several articles to get a clear understanding about what I am going to writing write about. Writing journals not only helped me opened my mind to new ideas but it also had express them in an academic way. Another issue tool that which helped me get acquire more additional information about bilingualism is the Critical Review we had done in class. Writing the critical review usually requires the students to read a selected article in detail and to also read along with other related texts so that s/he can present a fair and reasonable evaluation of the selected article. When I criticized critiqued an article, I had to read many other articles in order to have a better understanding about the selected article. I also had to read about how to evaluate and criticize critique an article in an academic manner. One of the crucial most vital methods that which help students in share sharing and expressing their ideas is a group discussion. Group discussion in class helped me Eenhance my learning in both the affective and cognitive domains. Participating in group discussion encouraged me to exchanges share my own experiences and provided me with the an opportunity for to sharing of share my ideas and concerns. It also inspired me to think about the various issues and problems in Bilingualism. Since our class consisted of many several students from different parts of the world, it was very beneficial to discuss many topics in bilingualism with them. Through this course, I had the opportunity to attend two presentations presented by Dr. Rebecca and Robyn. Dr. Rebecca’s speech made me think about different issues about bilingualism in Saudi Arabia such as curriculum design and teaching English as a second language and which understand and realize are some of the best approaches to foster that. (Add a prefix here, Dr. / Ms/ Mr. etc) Robyn`s speech helped me to gain more knowledge about women’s education around the world and how people must collaborate to help in giving support for many women to them complete their education. I have seen and witnessed such situations in many various countries and especially in the Philippines in particular. We as second/foreign language instructors and educated people individuals should do our best strive to help certain various organizations by extending our give support for women and thus providing an opportunity for them to pursue their education. This course did helped me in improveing my understanding and added a wide widened my knowledge to me about bilingualism. Without the great efforts from put in by my professor Karen by who enlightened us providing us with about various useful and important diverse issues about regarding bilingualism, I would not have been able to gain a better understanding and enough knowledge about Bilingualism. In my opinion, the course objectives were successfully achieved and the students were able to finished successfully complete this course with a great appreciation for the knowledge imparted and gained in the process, and full the satisfaction of learning more about recognition about Bilingualism. I tried to come up with some suggestions for the class but I think what have been done during the class was very useful and beneficial also offered various suggestions in the class, and am thoroughly satisfied with the result. Finally, I would thank my professor for her great efforts by in providing us with everything we needed as graduate students. Read More
