If anything, it should be noted that even in companies operating within a smaller region or territory, English language proficiency is still something possessed by the employees, and especially the executives, in varying levels. The globalization that has been taking place in recent years has strongly necessitated at least a basic command of the English language in order to succeed, to the point that even infamously xenophobic countries such as Japan and China have been forced to require their students to take up at least the English language in school, if not other foreign languages (Kubota, 1998; Kirkpatrick and Zhichang, 2002).
This paper seeks to discuss the reasons why English language is not as important to speakers of English as a second language. Although English is the most widely spoken language in United States and other regions, the rest of the population that speaks English as a second language still belong to the global community.
