Meanwhile, leadership is seen as a shared responsibility that is best undertaken in an atmosphere of belongingness and togetherness. Without a sense of developing the human capital of a leader’s subjects, most of the internal responsibilities of change become left to the leader alone to do, making it impossible for him to fit in well with the tasks at hand. Another fault that was identified with the leader was that he did not value the need to give feedback to his subjects.

1. Thinking about that leader, in what specific ways would you suggest they develop their leadership? Present a development plan.
I suggest that there should be a special meeting to put opinions for the development of various fields in this school. A development plan for the leadership of the school should therefore be generally focused on the need to bring about a change in the leadership style used by the leader of the school. By change in leadership style, advocacy is being made for the introduction of a democratic leadership style in which the leader learns to share the task of decision-making with all other subordinates and subjects. The meeting should therefore address the assignment of roles to other members of staff so that the leader will not be left to do all things by himself.

Secondly, the plan should clearly outline various ways by which the human capital of the staff is going to be developed. Specifically, there should be skills development and training for the staff to make them highly effective in their assigned roles. Finally, there should be a mechanism for evaluating and assessing the performances and outputs of the staff by the roles that are given to them. This way, it will be possible for the staff to identify their shortfalls and how these can be empowered for growth.

2. Do you have a personal development plan?

My future job is the principal of the school, so I'm developing myself by reading about leadership in the field of education. This means that the learning and knowledge acquisition phases have been an important aspect of my development plan. Through reading, I am hopeful of expanding my knowledge base on leadership. This is because reading will expose me to various aspects of leadership, specifically in the educational field. This is because even though leaders in different sectors and industries may have common qualities and skills that are identifiable with all of them, the field of education demands specialized leadership qualities. In most cases, educational leaders are seen as trainers of future leaders.

Also, I meet some of the principals of schools here in the United States to take advantage of some of their experiences. This means that as part of my development plan, I am paying very close attention to mentorship and training. Mentors are people from whom we copy aspects of their lives and attitudes to build or develop or own. Mentors give us inspiration that our ambitions to succeed are possible because they are often people who have succeeded in their areas of leadership. Having mentors as part of a personal development plan also means there are going to be people whose mistakes are going to act as experiences that must not be repeated. Read More
