The government built traditional schools to ensure that many students went to school despite the economic backgrounds of their families (Reese, 2005). However, International Baccalaureate (IB) can be compared with the traditional high school curriculum in very many areas. Comparing IB and traditional schools is very hard especially when one is trying to see which one of them is better. This will only depends on what someone is looking for in the field of education. IB programs’ main aim is to foster critical thinking and to make student to understand worldly with the aim of learning to work globally. Students are taught to develop intellectual, emotional and social skills that they can apply in their working environments. Therefore, schools that provide good traditional education are also able to provide the same skills to their students. IB education offers three programs to their students between the age of 3 and 19. These programs are the primary year’s program (PYP), the middle years program (MYP), and the diploma program. The primary years program is offered to pupils aged 3 to 12 with aim of developing the child from classroom level to the outside world. The middle year program is made available to students aged 11 to 16. This program provides academic challenge framework and the skills of life by transcending subjects from traditional schools. ...
Most of these programs are taught in English, French and Spanish. The school documents are published in these languages. Students also do their exams tested in one the languages (Tilke, 2011). In traditional education, students select from four schools of study. They choose the study that suits their career goals or academics. They should choose studies that they can do best in them to avoid regretting in future. In each school of study, every student is supposed to participate in one the following studies. Comprehensive traditional program is one of the studies that students choose. It is a high standard curriculum, which is set to follow Kentucky Core Content. Honors program is a curriculum that involves extensive reading and writing. Its preparation sequence is very challenging. Students must work to ensure that they get 4.0 scales for them to remain in the program. Another study in the curriculum is the advanced program. In this level, students are able to choose advance studies. These studies are chosen either in single class or in multiple classes. For any student to participate here, one must pass the Advance program-screening test and get 3.0 grade point average (GPA). The fourth school of study is the advanced placement courses. Those who take these courses and later pass on the advanced program are given college credit (Reese, 2005). In IB education, students are taught to be international-minded. This is believed to make students understand their own national identity and culture. All IB students are taught the second language and the skills on how they can live and work with all people from all over the world.
