Education Issues - Admission/Application Essay Example

In my life I had different experiences, which made me well-suited for a career in the field of consumer science: one year of exchange in highschool, four years of study in the United States, passion for learning culture difference, desire to work in multinational company. I am honored to apply to the master of business administration in San Francisco State University. I started my academic life at Purdue University with accounting major; however, the accounting program was not the right choice for me.

I found myself captivated about consumer science, retailing and global merchandising. It took me a lot of courage to change my major to Retail Management in my junior year. That time I realized my great desire to deal with the field of Business, especially international business. I don’t have a GPA that I am proud of, because during one semester I was in depression because of some personal issues. However, in the summer session I encouraged myself that I can do it, so I took one class only for the summer and my goal was to pass this class.

I needed to know that I can get an A. It is not only about grade, but this has brought so much encouragement and since then my GPA has been increasing greatly. My major GPA improved a lot after I transferred major and it encouraged me to keep moving in the right direction. The main reason why I am applying for graduate school is the desire to learn more, and to learn more about consumer science. I want to work with companies, with international markets where I can enjoy working in a team with different cultures combined together.

When I was working in Walmart, China as a sales associate intern I was fascinated to see how cultural difference affects Walmart’s marketing strategies. For instance, Chinese customers’ need for shopping assistants is much higher than Americans customers’ who have more independent shopping style. My short-term goal is to finish my last semester with good ending. My long-term goal is to learn how to do business, I have so much to learn, to catch in comparison to those students,who majored business in their undergraduate program.

United States is the country that embraces people with various culture backgrounds. University of San Fransisco is a great example with a diverse faculty and students in MBA program and I am sure it will give me more amazing experiences and the best chance to prepare myself for future career.
