The strategies help in the analysis of language used in texts in order to decipher implicit and explicit meaning. The strategy does not solve the broader problem of establishment of meaning of text presented. Discourse analysis helps in the resolving of the problem at hand. The problem of data analysis is resolved through discourse analysis because it provides relevant ideas pertaining to the subject of concern. The two strategies present the concept of epistemology in different perspectives. The implication often variance is that the manner in which they attach meaning of text is different and unique. There is a need for congruence although this provides alternatives for the linguistic experts. According to McCarthy (2013), both concepts are never interchangeable. The implication of the variance is that an individual does not need to undertake discourse analysis when reading text. However, an individual needs to do reading in the course of carrying out a discourse analysis. Discourse analysis is scientific while reading is never scientific in nature. Discourse analysis is also empirical unlike reading of texts. Reading is descriptive in nature. The strategy is not technical like discourse analysis. Reading comprise of interpretive and humanistic reading. Interpretive reading is related to discourse analysis than humanistic reading. The interpretative reading involves the analysis of artifacts contained in a piece of text. Reading does not involve any form of methodology like is the case in discourse analysis. Discourse analysis entails the situation of a piece of text in its social and historical context. The exercise also involves the deconstruction of the text in order to restructure the text and derive desired meaning. The deconstruction of text is possible through some critical strategies like structuralism and psychoanalysis. The process helps in viewing of text from a different perspective.
