RESPONSE ESSAY TO A CASE STUDY Affiliated: Introduction Teen’s violence in schools and society is an issue that poses major challenges to both teachers and parents alike. This dilemma has extended in today’s society. In fact, teenage violence usually starts from the family and peers. This also happens when the teens especially those who live together in congregation like school settings observe what their peers are doing. In this case, the responsible, obedient and disciplined teenagers may easily get influence and their morality may get corrupted by that of those who have loose morals. These behaviors are further reinforced by what the youth see on television, internet video games, movies and what they hear in music. When children face sexual or physical abuse at a tender age, it is nevertheless surprising that they may show violent behaviors to their peers (John, 2011). This expository essay seeks to describe, explain and explore a scenario in a society setting where violence is witnessed though a young girl named Ebony. It further compares and discusses problems revolving around the school in question and effects arising. Ebony Roman In this case study, Ebony a 14 year old girl is depicted as a morally upright girl who appears innocent and free of blame. This tells much about her back ground and upbringing. From a teacher’s perspective, it is obvious from the case that Ebony hails from background that values morals. She has showed exemplary performance in school which is an indication of high level of discipline. In fact, at her age, it would be difficult to maintain such good performance given that this is a highly precarious moment when most teens are out to discover the world which in turn affects their performance. On the same note, her stature speaks much about herself. She is tall above average for her age and this places her as more mature compared to her peers (Ness, 2010). In fact, it is evident from the case that Ebony is less social and shy. In this respect, it may have been possible that her peers had great expectations from her in the social world. This implies that she might have turned down their offer from time to time. It is possible that, due to her outstanding traits that are different from her average peers, she may have felt totally incompatible with them. In addition, she stands out as ingenious which implies that she has out grown her actual age mentally and she has started to have self discovery making her identify her purpose in life and work towards achieving her goals in life. This is why she is seen as totally different in comparison to her fellow friends. Judging by the fact that she was on her way to the library, brings a picture of a hard working girl. It is clear from the case that her peers who seem to have been lying in wait for her had nothing important to do at the time of the incident. Ebony decides to go to the library to do her studies but on the contrary, a bunch of girls who are virtually idle decide to react negatively to her. This is a big contrast between the traits depicted by Ebony and her peers (Hudson, 2011). Her impeccable way of dressing equally speaks a lot. In fact this depicts her as a less influence girl who is not quick to embrace what she finds others doing. She is a little bit conservative and she does what she deems good. The case also depicts her as one who is closely knit to her mother and in terms of socializing meaning she delights in her comfort. This is implies why she is less moved by her age mates in terms of being outgoing. The Society In connection to the scene, Ebony was unable to escape which lives a lot to be desired given that she was in the company of her cousins. More so, the society is depicted as permissive and uncaring. According to report from the source, Ebony was beaten and left on the side walk. On the same note, it is found that the library security had made an attempt to break the fight, but they were ‘jeered at’ from a group of adult women and men. It is for this reason that it was difficult for Ebony to make an escape. This by itself is a devastating report that clearly indicates that the adults who were supposed to intervene and reason wisely with the teens were also creating fertile grounds for the fight. It is expected that these adult men and women were strong and as a result they could have stopped the fight and rescue Ebony. On the contrary, they were jeering for help with no offer for help. This implies that the child does not belong to the society and that the youth are at liberty to do as they wish (Barber, Sewell, & Taylor, 2010). Still it is clear that this was an only girl’s fight which must have had some source. For instance, it is true that Ebony is attractive and this may have triggered an element of jealousness from her peers as a way of revenge. Also, she is intelligent which may indicate something to the effect that her peers were envious of her way and got a little jealous. The most disheartening part of this report in an effort to explain the scenery is the fact that Ebony is left helpless on the side walk. There is no indication of volunteers who could bother to administer first aid. It was until when the ambulance came that she was taken to hospital. Despite comfort and reassurance from relatives who in this case were her family, the “adult men and women” soon left the scene immediately after the fight. This implies that the society only participation was in spectating and praising an evil as opposed to helping. From this case study the teacher objectively looks at this scenario as regrettable in the sense that, some youth go to schools or live in neighborhoods where violent behavior is all too recognizable and physical hostility is commonly relied upon to clear up disputes. Nevertheless, any adolescent can find himself or herself in conflicts, misunderstandings or disagreements that go up to a level that they sense they need to fight physically to make a resolution about the issue or to preserve their self-respect and esteem among their peers (Barbour, 2014). Conclusion To this end, it is evident from the case study that many youth simply lack the social skills and more so the problem-solving skills that are required to settle disputes harmoniously. As a result, parents should show concern about their teens who repeatedly show fight either for plausible or vague reasons. Teens who do not learn violent ways of solving disputes as demonstrated by “Ebony “in this case, will have problems trying to maintain a stable social relationship even at maturity. Also, it should be understood that school fighting could lead to expulsions and suspensions which would obviously interfere with the education of the youth in question. More so, fight ting within the community could lead to police involvement which might result in juvenile detention, assault charges or criminal records. Also when fights among girls are allowed to escalate, they may include weapons and fatalities in an effort to revenge. In conclusion, some youth as depicted by Ebony, feel so unsafe to protect them that gangmemebrship begin to make appeals to them. Therefore, Ebony’s family should get concerned given that after coming back from hospital, the girl was found to have acquired some cheeky behavior from bad company.
