Extract of sample "The Appeal Letter"

Dear Sir/Madam, RE: APPEAL LETTER I am an international who studied Mechanical Engineering for four years between September and May However, I was forced to withdraw from the program mainly as a result of my having failed algebra on numerous occasions leading to a situation where I ended up with a low GPA average of 61.55. Despite moving to another program, namely the four year Liberal Arts and Professional Studies program, as per university regulation, I have come to have a hard time of it mainly as a result of my not being able to understand anything within the philosophy courses. This is because the philosophy that is taught is not the same as the one which I have been raised knowing and I attribute this failure to understand to the cultural and philosophical differences between Canada and my home country. My failure to understand most of the concepts in the philosophy curses has been very frustrating for me because it has led to a situation where I feel that despite all of my studying, I am not making any significant progress. My problems with the philosophy course came to be coupled by my illness which persisted from May to December 2014. During this period, I developed a nasal sinus cyst as well as having my right eyeball aching most of the time; making it difficult for me to conduct my studies as effectively as I would have liked to. Furthermore, as a result of the severity of my illness, I was forced to abandon the summer 2014 semester and this is a circumstance which was not only frustrating for me, but it also led to my poor performance. I went to see a doctor concerning my illness and despite his recommending that I undergo surgery, I was not able to because it is an expensive procedure and the insurance that I have in Canada cannot wholly cover. The lack of enough funds to ensure that I underwent surgery in Canada meant that I was forced to continue with the following semester the best way that I could since I had not only been left behind in my studies, but also because I had no other option. In December 2014, I went back to my home country the day after completing my final exam for the 2014 fall semester. While in my home country, I was able to receive some treatment and as a result, I felt better than I had for months. When I returned to Canada in early January 2015, I brought some drugs that had been prescribed for me by my doctor and these were intended to not only keep me healthy, but also to reduce the size of the nasal sinus cyst. The doctor further recommended that I only undergo surgery after completing my studies in Canada because of the fact that it takes a long time for an individual to heal once the procedure is completed. Therefore, I returned to Canada determined to ensure that I recovered the ground that I had lost in my academics. While I was in my home country, I had a talk with my parents concerning my academic career and they advised that I needed to find a course that I could understand because that was the only way through which I could achieve success. After my arrival, I went to the academic advice center for the purpose of getting help on how best to chart my academic future. After being counseled on the various courses that I could take, I chose to transfer to the three year General Economics program. One of the reasons for this decision is that most of the credits that I have already acquired can be transferred to this program and I only need three more semesters, or nine more course total, in order to graduate. I believe that the General Education program is more compatible with me and it is my belief that if given an opportunity to undertake it, I can do very well. Now that I am feeling much better as a result of the treatment that I have received, I believe that I am in a position to do my best in my academics. My academics took a bad turn when I was not only kicked out of the Mechanical Engineering program, but also as a result of my illness getting worse. Furthermore, the fact that I transferred to a field that was completely alien to me made it nearly impossible for me to excel and it is because of these reasons that I was unable to ensure that I attained the required GPA. I am acutely aware that my grades have not been as good as expected and this has been reason for concern for me because I know that I can do better. Now that I am feeling much better than I was a year ago, it is my belief that I am now more than capable of performing well in my academics. Since May 2015, my grades have been steadily improving and if given one more opportunity to continue with my studies, I can guarantee that there will be a marked improvement in my grades to such an extent that I will attain a high GPA. I am currently taking a statistics course and it is my belief that I will most likely attain a grade of between B+ and A- in it. I really need to be given a final chance to recover in my academics and attain the required GPA mainly because to be kicked out of the university will mean that I will have nowhere else to go. I completed my high school in Canada and as a result, I cannot be enrolled to a university in my home country. I believe that I am making progress in my academics and this has been the case since January 2015 and if I am allowed to continue with my studies, I will ensure that I not only achieve the required GPA, but that I also excel in my studies. I really want to graduate and being allowed to continue with my studies will ensure that I do so and also have a shot at becoming successful in my life. I sincerely hope that my appeal will be considered. Read More
