It defined how the disability influences the learning capability of the student and how the process of learning can be improved. IEP responds to the special needs of learners with a disability by categorically stipulating the IEP goals and objectives that are supposed to adhere not only by the learners themselves but also by the education providers most especially the distinctive education teachers. The Process of Developing an IEP Before a team is made to develop the Individualized Education Program, the learners’ eligibility to such programs must be ascertained. The level of disability must be able to influence the learning ability. The eligibility test requires the statement on the current academic performance of the child indicating the effect of the disability on the learning 0progress of the child. IDEA 2002 emphasizes on the need for education providers to develop an IEP that conforms to the needs of every student who has specific needs within the eligibility tests and regulations of the state with regard to disability (Weishaar, 2001). All areas of suspected disability are evaluated by the school to see if they meet the threshold under the IDEA guidelines. After the evaluation, the school meets the respective parents to undertake the review of the collected disability results and influence the students’ learning. It is the collective responsibility of the school, and parents to determine whether the student requires significant education services. ...
The team then drafts the plan by initially identifying the student’s personal information. The team then uses the full individual evaluation (FIE), in order to establish the current level of the student’s academic performance and specific academic services needed by the student. The evaluation information is significant in identifying the academic strength of the student. The functional needs of the student must be considered in the development of the program. The use of positive behavioral interventions in the development of the plan is terribly necessary at this stage in order to help conform to the behavioral problems of the student. The communication needs of the child must also be established. Visual impairment and blindness are intensely critical issue that the IEP plan must be able to address. After taking the above considerations, the team then drafts a matrix that indicates the current level of the student’s performance, identifiers of the adverse effect of the disability in as far as learning is concerned. The progress in the general curriculum, measurable goals statement; involving short-term objectives and benchmarks, the required exceptional education and support and modification of the specific services to be offered are all contained in the plan. The particular needs student is exempted in the general education to a certain extent. Therefore, the plan is drafted in order that it provides an explanation on this extent.
