Intellectual Autobiography My story

At SERE, the various programs that I underwent there taught me about survival and evasion techniques; resistance and escape maneuvering as well as water survival. They trained me on camouflage techniques, methods of evasion and emergency first aid ways. The program aimed at how to survive and how to resist when one was under enemy captivity. Water survival was a three-day course that spoke about how to survive in an aquatic environment. It was a course that imparted skills necessary to survive in the hostile environments. It was in the SERE library where I read a book With the Old Breed by E.B Sledge that gave me some glimpses about the horrors of war. Sledge has given some of the terrifying account of the war in this book. In 1945, his team was assigned the task of wresting the Peleliu Island from 135,000 well-armed Japanese soldiers. The Battle of Peleliu was known to have inflicted one of the highest casualties to the American military. Over 9,800 soldiers either died or severely wounded due to over confidence or poor understanding on the Part of US Marine; however, learning experience from the mistakes helped naval commanders to face the situation more favorably later in Philippines.
