Name Instructor Course Due date Key Words: Salt Spray Test, Metal, materials, Corrosion, Effects, Weather, Atmosphere, Conditions, Chambers, A brief description of corrosion testing equipment Corrosion is a hazard in the working of tools of various kinds. The standard method of testing the resistance of corrosion on coated materials is the salt spray testing (Marti et al 51)…

Introduction

This implies this solution produces a corrosive atmosphere in the chamber. The accepted standard of testing chambers according to the international standards on salt sprays test (ISSST) is four hundred liters. Alternatively, some other solutions can also be applicable when testing corrosion. The test that applies 5% NaCl is the neutral salt spray whereby other solutions appropriate for this chamber include acetic acid. With the use of this solution, the name of the method of testing is acetic salt spray. The other solution that can apply in this case is acetic acid mixed with of copper chloride, which is one of the known corrosion tester is the Q-FOG cyclic corrosion testers. Designs of these instruments vary according to their capability of chambers. They also vary based on the various environments to which they have to operate. Figure 1: An example of a Q-FOQ cyclic corrosion tester. Results or testing of this machine is similar to those of an outdoor testing, which most of the salt spray testers have failed to deliver. The purpose and application of the corrosion testing equipment The desire to maintain use and existence of different machines is a concern for numerous engineering industries. ...

Chromate Conversion Coating replacement
Zhao et al indicates that it is a widely used method especially for A1 alloys in aerospace applications as it is considered to be very effective (51). However, Zhao et al points out that a number of factors including environmental regulations; the requirements for increased service life of airplanes; and the high cost of preventative maintenance has forced the US Air Force to search for other…
Corrosion Protection in Offshore Pipelines
Currently there are several techniques used by oil and gas industries to combat offshore corrosion. Corrosion resistant alloys are often used to prevent corrosion, as well as certain pipeline coatings and cathodic protection of pipelines. Offshore monitoring is often executed as a preventative measure, via electrical resistance monitoring, electrochemical methods, hydrogen monitoring, weight-loss…
Results and Discussion
After leaving the substance in the test solution for some time, it is weighted to measure the extent of loss in its weight. It is considered to be the effective method of testing the material’s characteristics. In this chapter, a graphical representation of corrosion testing is given. The corrosion testing was performed with the solution of Nacl with the quantity of 0.9%. Ocp vs time A Pictorial…
Materials and Corrosion
Crevice Corrosion Corrosion occurring within or adjacent to crevices, which are commonly left at joints, due to small volumes of stagnant corroding fluids is known as crevice corrosion. The most important feature of this type of corrosion is the contact with stagnant solution which takes place in interstices, near seals and in cervices made for nuts and rivet heads. The metals and alloys used in…

A theoretical study on their mechanical properties is also made. Samples of both finished materials having 1.2 mm thickness are tested against their mechanical properties which include universal testing and hardness testing. Another study of same grade of material which is kept under different process conditions is also made. Samples of 1.2 mm finished skin rolled SPCC steel versus 1.2 mm annealed…
