Design and Technology – CE2140 Performance of fresh and hardened concrete with recycled aggregates included {Your Name} {KU Number} Introduction There is an increasing trend for using recycled materials to create new concrete in order to increase sustainability and decrease costs among other factors…

Introduction

The various kinds of recycled aggregates in use include recycled concrete aggregate (RCA), recycled wash glass sand, recycled rubber tyres and others. This text will attempt to analyse the effects of recycled aggregates on the fresh properties of concrete (such as workability, compatibility, segregation, bleeding etc.) and on the properties of hardened concrete (such as strength, durability etc.). Effects of using recycled aggregate (RA) Recycled aggregates are composed of a host of materials but in general recycled aggregates are composed of common building materials in particular. These effects have been studied in detail in a number of studies. (Mindess & Young, 1981) (Back, 1977) (ACPA, 1993) Recycled aggregates composed of building materials are often composed of wasted concrete, tiles and bricks. In addition materials such as steel, wood, plastics, paper and other similar materials can also become part of the recycled aggregate. All of these materials affect the fresh and hardened properties of concrete significantly. Therefore these materials are generally excluded from recycled aggregates through fine selection by screening through magnetised means, wind separation, manual picking up etc. (Chen et al., 2003). ...

project needs (Russell, 1999). In severe environmental conditions, durability is not considered a mandatory requirement for HPC. The Strategic highway Research Program (SHRP) while defining HPC for highway structures as requiring a maximum water-cement ratio, a minimum durability factor of freezing and thawing, and a minimum early-age or ultimate compressive strength, identified four types of HPC.…
Experimental work on the mechanical properties of concrete using recycled aggregates
The main characteristics of the concrete that we look at include the history, hydration of each type of concrete, properties on test and the mechanical strength of each type of concrete. Several articles are used for reference but are limited to their content in the comprehensive strength after a total of 90 days and the static modulus of elasticity is also checked at a maximum of 28 days. With…
Literature Review - Use of Recycled Rubber Tyres as Aggregate in Concrete
There is the option of allowing this to work as an aggregate in concrete, specifically to begin changing the consumption in the UK and to begin lowering the number of toxins with the tyre production that occurs every year. While there is a large amount of consumption and changes with the tyres, there is also a question of whether the aggregate in the concrete is able to create the same substance…
Literature Review - Recycled Rubber Tyres as Aggregate in Concrete
This is able to alter and change the way in which the aggregate can be used while determining if the tyres can be recycled into a different substance for other needs. The literature review will look at the past applications with the tyres and how effective the recycled materials are. The review will therefore reveal insights into the major findings in this area and discover potential areas for…
Use of Recycled Rubber Tyres as Aggregate in Concrete
It is also observed that particle size, shape, proportion by volume of total weight of concrete, water to cement ratio and volume of concrete affect the compressive, flexural and tensile strengths along with elasticity, shear strength and workability of the concrete mix. …
High performance concrete
The concept has gone thru series of evolutions, since the birth of knowledge about mixing water, cement, and aggregate. Advent of high performance concrete is the result of this evolution. This research in brief demonstrates different aspects of this remarkable building material and how it has so far served people being an integral part of complex structures. recycling of concrete
In as much as concrete is useful for various construction activities, it makes a huge percentage of the clutter found in landfills. In other words, most of countries generate construction and demolition waste (C&DW) and a bigger proportion of the waste are concrete. There is considerable regional difference because of the construction traditions, thus, the amount of concrete in C&DW ranges between…
