Extract of sample "The Conference on Structural Dynamics"

Considering the factors such as rainfall, overall construction costs, and the strength of the bridge, I opted and decided to use an arrangement consisting of steel and concrete. I used hot and galvanized steel to avoid any possibility of rusting. I assembled the steel using bolts which were also galvanized to protect them from rusting. The bolts were also galvanized at high temperatures to avoid rusting (Proulx 187). This was to ensure they easily be fixed into steel rods.

We constructed part of the bridge in situ and others using rollers. We also applied the methods due to the high water volume in the river following a heavy downpour. Concretes are supposed to be attached to the steel. The concretes are made of Portland cement and sand (Proulx 189). The two materials are used because of their ability to set quickly even when underwater. When combined, the materials become waterproof, a desirable and required nature of most materials used for constructing bridges. The concretes are placed on top of the steel 10-20 m above the water surface.

This is because steel is a strong metal and easily withstands the weight of the concrete above it. The height is meant to prevent excess water from reaching the bridge when there is high rainfall leading to excess water in the river.
