The three benefits of metalworking are easy accessibility since it is the most common casting technique. Secondly, although they are expensive, the dimensions of patterns from this casting are stable and durable. Lastly, metalworking technology is essential where repetitive casting production is needed on a large scale. #12: Centrifugal molding is the most rapid method of producing small cast parts. However, this system is not suitable to use for twenty parts since it has limitations on casting sizes; usually restricted to cylindrical geometric shapes.

#13: The fuel employed in the Cupola furnace is gas. Iron foundries are the metal often melted in a cupola furnace. One type of furnace serving a similar purpose as a cupola furnace is an induction furnace. #14: The two types of furnaces used to melt non-ferrous metals include cupola furnace and induction furnace. #15: The molten metal gets to the mold cavity through jolting compaction or squeezing compaction in the mold. #16: The sand that has solidified and cold enough to handle is used in filling those casting, which has hollow sections. #17: It is commendable to wear protective clothing such as safety glasses and heat-resistant clothing due to the production of high temperatures during these processes.

#18: The best way to prevent a cast iron that has broken at the joint is by using the hardened sand to fill the cavity. #19: Impurities and porosity in sand casting, particularly at the top edge next to the riser, are often due to low patterns. On the other hand, material costs are the primary cause of the massive shrinkage cavity in this casting. Modification of the pattern and cutting the cost of the equipment's are the two remedies for these problems. #20: A hot-chamber casting machine uses high temperature to melt alloys while a cold chamber uses low temperature to melt alloys. Additionally, the cold chamber is efficient for low-temperature melting alloys.

Chapter 8 Case 1: Machining all holes, cavities, and surfaces from solid bars that come in 20 feet long bars, which are sawn-off lengths for machining is the best option; options two, and three take longer time while options three, four, and five are costly. Chapter 8 Case 2: Resin Shell molding is the best method to use in melting small bronze gear because it has a rapid production rate and does not use machining.

Chapter 10 Case 1: Permanent mold is the method the manufacturer may have chosen to manufacture the wrist pins; this method has a rapid production rate with low scrap loss as well as excellent finish at the surface and grain structure. Chapter 10 Case 2: Changing the casting process is the change the manufacturer could have made if it wanted to make profits without breakdowns.

Chapter 11: The product can be made denser with increased impact strength without changing the process from plain die compaction and without changing the present die size by using the hardened sand, which fills the cavity and increases the impact strength.

Chapter 14 Case 1: The most applicable process is die-casting; it is relatively cheap, has a high production rate with an excellent finish. Chapter 14 Case 2: Vacuum (“V”) process molding is the best process that can be used to intersect several drilled holes due to its ability to mold all shapes and sizes of castings.

Chapter 15 Case 1: The experienced supervisor is right; the TIG prevents the metal burning-through effects. Consequently, the manufacturer could adopt a suitable casting process that involves machining to counter the effects of metal burning-through. Chapter 15 Case 2: The other method that can be used to solve this production problem is employing a different casting process such as No-Brake molding.

Chapter 16: The best way to solve such a problem is by adopting the best casting process that is vital for weight-saving purposes. No-Brake molding is a good example of a casting procedure that would be essential for weight-saving purposes; unlike other casting processes, it is less expensive and has a high production rate.
