Name Tutor Course College Date Heat exchangers A heat exchanger is an instrument which transfers heat energy from a hot fluid to a cold fluid, with rates being maximum while the investment and running cost being minimum. Sometimes the media is separated by a wall such that the fluids do not mix or get into direct contact…

Introduction

Examples of heat exchangers are; intercoolers, preheaters, oil coolers of heat engine, condensers, and evaporators in refrigeration units.Various types of heat exchangers have been developed to meet the widely varying applications and are classified according to; nature of heat exchange process, physical state of fluid, constructional and design specs and relative direction of fluid flow. According to the nature of the heat exchange process, heat exchangers are classified as; direct and indirect contact heat exchangers. Plate and shell heat exchanger, combines both the plate heat exchangers and the shell exchangers for maximum efficiency. At the centre of the heat exchanger lies two plate that are pinned together by pressing them and welding them together. There is a nodle whose function is to carry fluids in and out of the whole system. This combination is very efficient in offering high operating temperatures, and high pressure a factor that is vital in the heat exchange process. The heat exchanger is able to function well without any gaskets. This means that it is able to work under these extreme conditions without any risk of leaking the fluid during the heat exchange process. ...

Heat Transfer Equipment
Within the real environment, the operational requirements include flexibility and maintainability of the equipment, in an economically viable manner. Economic and operational viability considerations should ensure the sustainability of the equipment in the real environment. The operation of the equipment in the real environment relies heavily on the adaptability of the equipment to the…
Heat Pump and VCC Metering Devices Formal Report
Although error in achieving the desired outputs also occurred in the process, yet a linear relationship could be obtained- with the reducing value of the length, the head loss has also presented decrease in its value. However, since calculations have presented errors and differences between the results obtained through the results with that of the theoretical values, hence it is suggestive to…
Selected Engineering Field Research Paper
This is achieved by providing solutions for both consumer and commercial applications. Civil engineering is one of the oldest fields in engineering that arose out of the many challenges that humanity experienced in the early days. Civil engineers are concerned with overseeing the construction of tunnels, roads, bridges, airports and many other infrastructures. In the course of their job, civil…
Selected Engineering Field Research Paper
Engineering has over time evolved to be a broad field with very many specializations each concerned with different aspects of human life. Engineering is certainly the link between the theoretical science that man learns and discovers daily and the commercial applications of such discoveries. Great advances in engineering have certainly continued to be the order of the day as man grapples with a…
Geothermal and Air Source Heat Pumps
It has become the need of the day to consider replacing the gas boilers and fossil fuel burning oil with some other heating systems. It can be done either by supplementing traditional energy generating systems with solar photovoltaic technology or super efficient solar thermal or by replacing current systems with efficient heating systems, such as, geothermal and air source heat pump (The Energy…
Lean concept in manufacturing field
With the failure of MRP to offer enhanced system performance, the shift has focused to Just-in-time production systems which are driven by customer demand Hence, the jobs are “pulled through the system” with linkage between stages in the production process (Deleersnyder, et al., 1989). The Japanese system of Kanban is required in order to physically implement the pull production system. Kanban…
Gullfaks Oil field
Well Location and Spacing Gullfaks is a gas and oil field geographically situated in the Northern part of the Norwegian Sea since in 1987 when it started its full operation though unveiled a bit earlier in 1978 (Vassiliou, 2009, p. 475). The gap between its start of operation and invention signifies immense task involved in ascertaining whether both its recoverable as well as non-recoverable…
