Introduction New media technology is generally associated with the use of internet all over the world. Chavis (n.d s, “New media technology is any type of application meant to transfer information via digital techniques, computerized systems or data networks”. Some of the most commonly used types of new media include social networking websites, video ads, banner ads, bluetooth, and blogs. Interactivity is the most common and attractive feature of all of these new media types. Melanson (2011) asserts, “As new media is constantly evolving to connect to as many different platforms and people as possible, one of its most defining characteristics is interactivity”.

Today, use of new media types has become common in almost every home where people use different media to transfer important information to each other. Positive and Negative Aspects of New Media Emerging new media technologies brings a number of considerable benefits to the people living all over the world, which make people replace old media with the new ones. Some of the main advantages of using new media technologies include improved connectivity, reduced distances, interactivity, low cost communication, improved business marketing, and broad and diverse audience.

All of these advantages of new media are playing a considerable role in the life of almost every person. Low cost communication and social interactivity are two such features of new media, which attract a large number of people towards new media. New media technologies are also popular in the business world. Today, almost every company makes use of social networking websites and other new media types to reach new markets and introduce their products and services to a diverse range of audience.

Along with a large number of benefits of new media, there also exist some negative viewpoints regarding use of new media. Some of the negative aspects include time wastage in using social networking sites, loss of privacy, decreased physical interactions, and unprotected communication. Some people say that children waste most of their time in using facebook, twitter, and other networking websites, which is not a good for their studies. Some critics claim that new media types are not very secure because hackers can gain control of any computer system and can read personal mails and information of any person.

Being a student, I like social networking websites the most among all types of new media. I have made a number of friends with whom I chat regularly and share news with them regarding any matter. I do not think I could have made such a large number of friends without using such websites. Today, I have friends from different cultural and social backgrounds who help me understand cultures of different countries. I have also found my old classmates using these websites, which is one of the most attractive features of using these websites.

Conclusion Summing it up, new media technologies, which are associated with the use of internet, provide a large number of benefits to the people living all over the world. New media technologies hold various attractive features, such as, improved connectivity, interactivity, low cost communication, which make people replace old media with the new ones. There also exist some negative points regarding new media but they are not enough to overshadow the wide range of advantages associated with the use of new media.
