[Your full September 19, Narrative Essay I never knew that drinking while driving could be so hazardous not only for me but for my whole family. “Nothing ever happens, Mom”, I would tell Mom whenever she scolded me on this bad habit of mine. It was the last summer when I got the lesson of my life. I was caught driving while drunk and was sent behind bars. I do not want to recall that unfortunate event but for the sake of learning the lesson, I must remember that. Here, I shall describe that night which changed my life.

The experience has totally changed me and has given me a meaningful purpose of living that is beneficial for me and the society as well. Last summer, my friends and I decided to hang out till late night. We picked a point where we were supposed to gather. I grabbed my car, took some money, and there I was in the streets of Mexicali. We had to gather at a point. I met my friends and we had a party. Everything was going good until Michael, a friend of mine, brought drinks. “Cheers!”, we said and took drink after drink.

When we left, I was alone in my car driving back home, drunk. I could not see properly and I could not feel that I was over speeding too. I remember a car coming toward me from the opposite side and all I could hear after that was a loud “Bang!” My head smashed on the front screen as I forgot to put the seat belt on, and my car’s bonnet got damaged badly. I did not know what happened after that. I woke up with some noise. I heard my name being called. “Agustin Flores! Agustin Flores! Get up, respond”, someone shouted at me.

“Where the hell am I”, I asked frantically. “You are in the county jail of Mexicali”, said the correctional offer. “Oh my God! What have a done”, I said, and then I was told about the incident. That was the moment that I realized that I was in great trouble. I had called this trouble myself. I was responsible for it, I knew. It was very hard for me to be there. It was so depressing and that disheartening situation made me think over and over about my carelessness. “Baby, look after yourself and don’t be late from home”, Sister Bertha’s words were striking my brains with their great force.

She said this to me when last Sunday, my mom took me to the church to take some advice from her. Oh! How much I have been upsetting my parents! “What a big nuisance you are!” My Dad often told me. And I deserved all that scolding. I wished I could undo what I had done. I wished I was not in this county jail. I wished I was not in this world at all. “Why God did not take my life in the accident?” was my ultimate wish. I did not want to confront my parents in jail. Behind the bars, I met Smith.

He was a feeble African American and had come there in a similar case. He kindled in me a hope that helped me come out of my gloom. “Son! Always abide by the rules.” “Rules? I do not accept any rules.” “You know but you don’t want to follow. You disobey your parents, break laws, and then you expect the world to be good to you? This is the rule you accept.” “What should I do now? I am so ashamed.” “Ask for forgiveness from your mother and you will come out of all difficulties.

” That was the moment that I felt waiting for the warmth of my mother’s lap. I felt as if God was giving me a chance to leave the wrong path. My parents came in and I fell in their feet. I ask for forgiveness. I assured them that I would never ever disappoint them ever in future. I asked for only one chance, and they gave it. I knew deep inside me that they will. What happened next includes some legal procedures during my worst stay of some days behind bars. When I came out, I was a totally new person.

I had recollected myself and had transformed into a constructive personality. I learnt from my bad experience that actual living does not mean living for your own self only; rather, it means living in such a way that is beneficial and pleasing not only for you but for the whole society. One must always obey his parents in order to stay on the right path. One must always obey the laws to be a responsible citizen. These are some of the very precious lessons that I learnt and that I want my readers to consider too.
