People convinced of drunk driving should lose their licenses forever

It is therefore important that the practice of driving under the influence of alcohol be dealt with and stopped to avoid more deaths on the road. I believe that the most appropriate way to deal with the practice is to revoke the licenses of those found guilty of drunk driving permanently. This will ensure that such people do not endanger lives while on the road. It will also act as a deterrent measure for others (‘2009 Drunk Driving Statistics’).
The revocation of a license when one is caught driving under the influence of alcohol has been shown to be an effective measure in controlling alcohol related accidents on the road. A study in Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research found that taking away a driver’s license upon arrest for drunk driving led to a 5% reduction of alcohol related accidents. This means that revoking a license is a life saving measure. The immediate revocation of the license is important as the person gets to suffer the consequences of their action immediately.
Most of the drivers who cause accidents because of driving under the influence of alcohol do not get the punishments that they deserve. In most cases, they have their licenses suspended for a few weeks and have to pay a fin. In some cases, they do not even get their licenses suspended. It is interesting to note that most of those who cause accidents while driving drunk have previously committed the offense. The only way to ensure that people who have been found to be driving under the influence do not repeat the offense is revoke their licenses permanently. The permanent revocation of the license is punishments that will make people avoid committing the offense, as they do not want to lose their licenses.
